Woodland Knight

A woodland knight is a lionhearted protector, fighting with both sword and bow, to seek and fell strong and destructive foes. A woodland knight is almost always associated with a human community, and are often proper knights or royal hunters in the employ of a ruler. Some woodland knights may be knight errant, seeking to defeat her foes as an anonymous protector, or perhaps only for the sake of her glory. Unlike most rangers, a woodland knight is skilled in the use of heavy armor, and often mixes archery as well as melee attacks as their favored fighting style.

Class: Ranger

Level: 1st-20th

Replaces: Favored Enemy, Favored Terrain, Hunter's Bond (Altered), Spells, Evasion

Benefit: A woodland knight gain the following class features:

Armor Proficiency: A woodland knight is proficient with heavy armor. She does not lose any of her ranger abilities while wearing heavy armor.

Knight's Bane (Ex): At 1st level, the woodland knight can, as a move action, indicate an enemy in combat and rally her allies to focus on that target. The woodland knight and her allies gain a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against the target. This ability applies only to allies who can see or hear the woodland knight and who are within 30 feet of the woodland knight at the time she activates this ability. At 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter (10th, 15th, and 20th level), the bonus increases by 1. The woodland knight’s bane lasts until the target dies or the freebooter selects a new target.

A woodland knight’s quarry must be the target of her knight's bane ability, rather than a favored enemy.

This ability replaces favored enemy and alters quarry.

Armor Training (Ex): At 3rd level woodland knight gain armor training as a fighter of her class level.

This ability replaces favored terrain.

Knight's Bond (Ex): A woodland knight's hunter bond does not allow her to make a bond with allies, she may however choose a bond with an animal companion as normal. She may also make a bond with an order, choosing a cavalier order when she gains this ability. She gains the Order's skill bonus and the Order's 2nd level ability. At 10th level she gains the Order's 8th level ability. At 18th level she gains the Order's 16th level ability. She must follow her order's edict or become shaken for 1 hour if she violates it, bypassing any immunities she has.

This ability alters hunter's bound.

Secondary Combat Style (Ex): A woodland knight gains a second combat style at 4th level as well as a feat from that combat style, following the normal rules for combat style. She must choose archery as her secondary combat style, unless she previously chose archery at which point she may select any other combat style as her secondary combat style. Furthermore, when she would gain a combat style feat she may select from either her primary or secondary fighting style.

This ability replaces spells.

Stalwart (Ex): At 9th level whenever a woodland knight makes a Fortitude or Will saving throw against an attack that has a reduced effect on a successful save, she instead avoids the effect entirely. A helpless woodland knight does not benefit from stalwarts.

This ability replaces evasion.
