Mathias[edit]

Mathias was a member of a small clan of monks who, unlike any other clan, specialized in the use of the rapier. At one point, the elders of the clan decided that while he was skilled in combat, he was unworthy of continued training of said clan (he had recently become True Neutral). Enraged, he decided that they must pay for dishonoring him in front of all of his former comrades. One by one, he killed every single leader of the clan in their sleep.*

The last elder he killed was the one he was closest to. After fatally stabbing the elder Mathias spoke to him. “You and all the other elders have paid for dishonoring me in front of everyone.” The elder looked at his former pupil. “It was not me who dishonored you, Mathias; you did it yourself. Look at you, killing an old man in his sleep. How could you ever consider yourself worthy of our clan?” After finishing those words, he passed away. What he said to Mathias struck him harder than any blade could possibly ever accomplish. At this point he knew his past was forever stained with the evil act he did that night, he decided that he must redeem his honor.

Mathias is now Neutral Evil. He wishes to become Lawful once more, but he has no intentions of becoming Lawful Neutral or Good.

Despite being evil, Mathias has a code of honor he follows.

  • Rule 1: Mathias will not attack a person unless his opponent has been given a reasonable amount of time to prepare. He never kills people in their sleep.
  • Rule 2: Unless specifically tasked to by a superior, Mathias will not purposefully kill civilians. He dislikes it when his allies do so, but he says nothing about it when they do so, because he respect his allies free will.
  • Rule 3: Mathias will not tell small lies, or lies that will go unnoticed.
  • Rule 4: While not fighting, torturing and/or killing an opponent, Mathias treats said opponent with courtesy and politeness.
