The Esoteric Stranger[edit]

A strange vestige, said to have been a dimensional traveler whose voyage led him or her astray in nonexistence.

Level: 2nd

Binding DC: 20

Legend[edit]

The Esoteric Stranger is a strange individual, a vestige of a binder who attempted to cross the barrier between realities but failed and ended up trapped outside of it. Some binders theorize that there are many Esoteric Strangers.

Manifestation[edit]

The Esoteric Stranger is always dressed in an impeccable black suit with a tie and a melon hat. Somehow, shadow always covers its face and most of its features are obscured. However, close observation reveals that the stranger takes the binder's appearance. The stranger answer(???)

Sign[edit]

The binder's shadow disappears and reappears at random, for variable lengths of time.

Influence[edit]

The Esoteric Stranger does not influence the binder per se. However, under a bad pact the binder will have flashes of memories belonging to alternate versions of herself. This memory mixup has advantages (see Memories of Other Worlds) but also makes the binder take a −2 penalty on all knowledge checks.

Hat of the Stranger[edit]

The binder may make any hat he or she wears act as a privacy hat as a swift action.

Memories of Other Worlds[edit]

This ability functions as contact other planes; however, you instead attempt to draw memories from alternate-reality versions of yourself, attempting to gain relevant information. This is always the equivalent of trying to contact the Astral Plane mechanically, except instead of a lie, it will give a distorted but still true answer. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.

If you are under the influence of the esoteric stranger, this is the equivalent of contacting the outer plane (intermediate deity) instead.

Shadow of Other Selves[edit]

As a standard action, the binder can summon a shadow of one of her alternate selves. The shadows act as a simulacrum of you, but possess none of your extraordinary, spell-like, or supernatural abilities. The shadow comes into existence with a mundane version of any clothing, weapon, or armor you possess, but no other items. The shadow looks like a shadowy version of you; however, it may be slightly distorted or different. It appears to be following personality quirks, but is under your absolute control.

A binder may only have one shadow at any time for each 3 binder level she possesses (minimum of 1). The shadows stay with you for up to 1 hour before vanishing alongside their equipment. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again for 5 rounds.

Transdimensional Form[edit]

The power of the stranger allows you to partially reach into other dimensions. You count as having etherweave arms and etherweave legs. You also ignore the miss chance of dreamborn and hyperdimensional creatures.

Additionally, once every 5 rounds you can teleport as per dimension door, but only within line of sight.
