Soulbinder Wizard

There are many things which drive great men and women to the path of wizardry. In this case, intense grief can lead an arcane caster in a foolish attempt to preserve someone they care about. This always goes wrong, causing the soul to become a shadow of its former self or be trapped inside an object. The soulbinder wizard has managed such a tragic feat, and the intense study of necromancy which allowed this deed to be achieved granted them great talents

Class: Wizard

Level: 1st-20th

Replaces: Familiar, Specialization

Benefit: A Soulbinder Wizard gains the following class features. A Pathfinder Wizard also gains the Ectoplasmic Casting and Spirit Channeling class feature, but not a SRD wizard.

Lost Soul Bond: A Soulbinder Wizard successfully bound the soul of a recently departed loved one before it could properly move on to the afterlife. The bound soul either coalesce into a familiar or is held into a bonded object. The familiar acts as normal for it kind except that the familiar's alignment does not need to match the wizard and it possesses the personality (but not memories) of the loved one. The bonded object seems to 'speak' to the Soulbinder Wizard, but no other creatures can hear it even through magic.

Due to the strong magical and emotional link with the Soulbinder Wizard, being separated from it for long is a traumatic process. The Soulbinder Wizard take a -2 penalty to attacks roll, caster level and skill check if her familiar is out of her line of sight for more than 1 minute, or if her bonded object is not in her possession. If the familiar is killed or the bonded object is destroyed the Soulbinder Wizard has a mental breakdown, becoming Staggered, take a -4 penalty on attack rolls, caster level and skill check until she regains access to them.

Unlike a normal familiar of bonded objects, the necromantic link with the item and the Soulbinder Wizard cause it reappear next to her the next time she rests to regain her spell if killed, destroyed or otherwise lost. The lost soul cannot be resurrected or brought back from the dead until the Soulbinder Wizard is slain, at which point the familiar dies or the object shatters, freeing the soul.

School Specialization: A Soulbinder Wizard must specialize in Necromancy, if pathfinder is used this replaces the normal abilities granted by the necromancy school.

Spiritbinder Spell Access: A Soulbinder Wizard adds the following spells to her spell list at the listed level, these spells are considered necromancy spells for the purpose of school spell slot preparation even if they are not.

Ectoplasmic Casting: At 1st level the Soulbinder Wizard gain Ectoplasmic Spell as a bonus feat. She may apply it spontaneously to a spell she cast with no adjustment in spell level a number of times per day equal to half her wizard level.

Spirit Channeling (Ex): At 8th level, a Soulbinder Wizard can draw inspiration and counsels from the soul of her loved one. As long as her familiar is adjacent to her, or her bonded object is in her possession she can channel the spirit bound into her bonded object or familiar. The effect is based on whether the Soulbinder Wizard has a familiar or bonded object:

If she possesses a familiar it gains the ability to cast the Soulbinder Wizard's spells, using the Soulbinder Wizard's DCs and caster level. This ability can be used once per day at 8th, twice per day at 15th and thrice per day at 20th.

If she possesses a bonded object she may channel her sorrows through while casting a spell. If she does it increase the DC of the spell by +1. Doing so increases the casting time of the spell to a full-round action if it was a standard action or faster to cast it.
