Sleep Deprivation[edit]

The rules for sleep deprivation are either hard to find or nonexistent, as a result I made this set of somewhat simple rules. These rules are aimed at making it hard to skip a day of sleep without it being overwhelming. Not meant to be super realistic.

Each day a character do not sleep she take a cumulative -1 penalty to all mental ability scores, to a maximum of -5. After 3 days she also become Fatigued. After a week the character become exhausted and start taking 1d4 point of Wisdom damage every week she stay awake after that. A day which the character nap at least an hour only count as one third of day without sleep, although a nap do not remove the effect of sleep deprivation.

Sleep deprivation is removed by sleeping for at least 8 hours plus 1 hour per day of sleep missed. This do not need to be continuous but no more than 12 hours must pass between each sleep and it must be done in at least 8 hours session. Alternatively by casting Holt's energy booster remove all penalties of sleep deprivation for it duration, while a restoration (or stronger similar effect) instantaneously remove them. Effects which end conditions early, such as heart of a champion have no effect on sleep deprivation.

A character immune to Fatigue or Exhaustion still need to sleep and suffer from the mental degradation. A character with the Endurance feat can make a DC 15 Fortitude save each day to ignore the need to sleep, the DC increase by 1 for each day that passed without her sleeping or napping. A successful save mean that the character do not incur any increased effect from sleep deprivation, but it does not cure any sleep deprivation the character may have.

Effect Change: Holt's energy booster simply remove the penalties for it duration, they still accrue even while under the effect of the spell. This replace the ability score burn done by abusing the spell.
