Shadow Claws [Skill] Thanks to magic or a curse, you may shape shadowcrafted claws as weapons. Benefits: This is a skill feat that scales with your ranks in Hide.

  • 0 ranks: As a swift action, you may shape claws made of shadows on your hands. These are primary natural weapons, deal 1d8 of cold damage and count as magical. You can't cast spells while they are active, unless the spell only has verbal components, and you can't hold items.
  • 4 ranks: You may treat your claws as unarmed attacks if you have the Improved Unarmed Strike feat, or similar ability, for any purpose (such as the Ki Strike feature). If not, you may attack two times with them, with a -2 to each attack. You add your Dexterity modifier or Wisdom modifier to damage with the claws, instead of Strength, if it would be beneficial.
  • 9 ranks: When grappling with an enemy you deal claws damage with each successful grapple check and it must make a Fortitude save (DC is 10 + half your HDs + the damage you dealt with the claw) or be affected by slowness for the duration of the grapple. An opponents that resists is no longer subject to the effect by those same claws. You may now cast spells and hold items even with the claws active.
  • 14 ranks: As a swift action you may extend the claws to gain reach up to 10 feet (3 meters). You may retract them to normal reach with a free action. From now on your claws ignore cold resistance and deal half damage to enemies with cold immunity.
  • 19 ranks: The claws now deal 2d6 of damage and this damage ignores cold immunity. Instead of normal attacks you do touch attacks. You can channel melee touch spells, or similar abilities, through the claws, even while attacking. From this point on enemies that pass the save against the slowness effect may be affected again by the same claws.

Special

As an option, at 4 ranks, you may instead treat them as Feral Strike, if it would be more beneficial and if you use this rule.
