You infect a creature with a shard of your own psyche, which links you and the target psionically. While affected by this power, you have a constant status effect with them, and know their direction (but not distance). This link is suppressed if the target is on another plane.
At any point, you can concentrate as a standard action, and obtain the senses (including audio and visual) of the afflicted target as if you were actually there. Effects such as detect scrying detect this effect while in progress, but gives no insight to the nature of the possession itself. You do not lose your own senses, but it is distracting and you take a −6 on Listen and Spot checks made for what is occurring around your body.
At any point, you can choose to create an active connection between you and the target. The duration becomes 5 rounds. During this time, you can employ any purely mental actions through the link such as telepathy or manifesting, and using the target as the source of your manifesting. For example, you could use mind thrust on your victim, or on a creature in range of the victim. During the 5 rounds, you have their senses, as if concentrating. After the duration is up, the possession ends.
Any effect which detects, blocks, or removes possession functions against this ability.
Augment: You can augment this power in one or more of the following ways.
- If you spend 1 additional power point, the duration of the "active" connection increases by 1 round.
- If you spend 2 additional power points, you can speak through a creature you maintain concentration with.
In addition, for every 2 additional power points you spend to achieve any of these effects, this power’s save DC increases by 1.
As a special augmentation, if you manifest psionic dominate through an active connection of this power, you can choose to augment psionic dominate for 6 power points. If you do so, you assume direct control. The dominated target gains all of your abilities and ability scores, except for HD, hp, and any gross physical features such as wings or items. The duration of active connection becomes 1 round/level (if longer than 5 rounds). You otherwise have complete control over the body and its actions, while using your own class features, feats, and powers. You can choose upon manifesting to also adopt the appearance of your original body as per disguise self, if applicable.
