Psychic Inspector
Some advanced civilization, especially space-faring one, also employs inquisitors with psychic powers. Often trained from psychic stocks to root out the heretic, daemons and traitors with their ability to read minds being particularly prized. As a result of their training, their psychic powers are reduced but the additionally gained skills more than make-up for it..
Class: Inquisitor
Level: 1st-19th
Replaces: Weapon Proficiencies (Altered), Spellcasting (Altered), Domain (Altered), Detect Alignment, Stern Gaze, Solo Tactics, Teamwork Feats
Benefit: A psychic inspector gain the following class abilities:
Secular Inquisitor: While a psychic inspector may worship a deity, her powers come from her mind rather than a higher power. She cannot select a domain with her inquisition, but may select any inquisition of her choice. She also isn’t proficient with the favored weapon of her deity, instead choosing a single martial weapon to be proficient with or gaining Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat.
This ability alters weapon proficiency and domain.
Spellcasting: A psychic inspector casts psychic spells drawn from the psychic class spell list and augmented by a select set of additional spells (see Psychic Detective Spells). Only spells from the psychic class spell list of 6th level or lower and psychic inspector spells are considered to be part of the psychic inspector’s spell list. If a spell appears on both the psychic inspector and psychic class spell lists, the psychic inspector uses the spell level from the psychic inspector spell list. She can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell, a psychic inspector must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell’s level. The saving throw DC against a psychic inspector’s spell is 10 + the spell’s level + the psychic inspector’s Wisdom modifier.
Like other spellcasters, a psychic inspector can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. She knows the same number of spells and receives the same number of spells slots per day as a bard of her investigator level, and knows and uses 0-level knacks as a bard uses cantrips. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Wisdom score.
At 5th level and every 3 levels thereafter, a psychic inspector can choose to learn a new spell in place of one she already knows, using the same rules as a bard.
In effect, the psychic inspector loses the old spell in exchange for the new one. The new spell’s level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged, and it must be at least 1 level lower than the highest-level spell the psychic inspector can cast.
A psychic inspector need not prepare her spells in advance. She can cast any psychic inspector spell she knows at any time, assuming she has not yet used up her allotment of spells per day for the spell’s level.
This ability alters spellcasting.
Thoughts Reader (Sp): A 2nd level psychic inspector is able to replicate the effect of detect thoughts as a spell-like ability at-will. The DC is equal to 10 + half inquisitor level + the inquisitor's Wisdom modifier. A creature that succeeds it save against this ability is immune to further attempts for 24 hours.
At 12th level she may instead replicate the effect of detect anxieties and detect desires instead with the same limitation as detect thoughts.
This ability replaces detect alignment and the bonus teamwork feat gained at 12th level.
Inspector’s Gaze (Ex): A 2nd level psychic inspector gains half of her class level as an insight bonus on both perception and sense motive checks.
This ability replaces stern gaze.
Phrenic Adept (Su): Upon reaching 3rd level, a psychic inspector gains a phrenic pool (as a psychic) equal to half her level + her Intelligence modifier. Additionallythe psychic inspector gains a single phrenic amplification from the psychic list, gaining another at 9th level and 15th level. Starting at 15th level she may also select major amplifications. This does not allow the psychic inspector to qualify for the Extra Amplification feat.
This ability replaces solo tactics and the teamwork feats gained at 3rd, 9th and 15th level.
Mental Ward (Ex): At 6th level, a psychic inspector gain a +2 bonus on saving throws against effect which would read or modify her mind, or effect which would possesses her (such as magic jar, mind swap, a ghost's malevolence). This bonus increases by +2 at 18th level.
This ability replaces the teamwork feat gained at 6th and 18th level
