Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Ki Maestro.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Ki Maestros are proficient with unarmed, natural, and feral strikes and monk weapons and light armor.

Kiforming (Su): The Ki Maestro forms powerful magical self-enchantments. If the Ki Maestro class is the character's first Maestro class, their Form save DCs are Wisdom-based.

Forms (Su): Ki Maestros are a Maestro Form-Based class and thus use those rules.

Basic Forms[edit]

Armored in Ki — Passive Ongoing

Any
[Any]
Range: Personal
Target: Self

The Ki Maestro armors their body with the force of their will.

They get an armor bonus equal to the number of pips on the first die. This armor bonus applies even against touch attacks.

Flourishes:
  • [3-] Enchanted Self: The Ki Maestro also gets an enhancement bonus to armor equal to the number of pips on this die. The enhancement bonus may be traded out for armor enhancements, chosen when the die is placed.

Strikes of Ki — Passive Ongoing

Any
[5+]
Range: Personal
Target: Self

The Ki Maestro imbues their unarmed attacks with the force of their will.

Their unarmed attacks get a +2 bonus to damage per character level.

Flourishes:
  • [3-] Enchanted Self: The Ki Maestro also gets an enhancement bonus to attack for their unarmed, natural, and feral strikes equal to the number of pips on this die. The enhancement bonus may be traded out for weapon enhancements, chosen when the die is placed.

Ki Movement — Active

Any
[Even]
Range: Personal
Target: Self
Action: Move or Immediate

The Ki Maestro imbues theirself with incredible speed and agility.

Activated as a move action, the maestro may move with a bonus of 10' per pip on the first die.

Activated as an immediate action, the maestro may either: move a total distance of 5' per pip on the first die; or reduce damage from a fall by 10' per pip on the first die.

Flourishes:
  • [3-] Perfect Grace: Any tumble, balance, swim, climb, or jump checks made as part of the Ki Movement get an insight bonus of +5 per pip on this die.

Dazing Palm — Active

Any
[2-]
Range: Attack
Target: One creature
Action: Attack

The Ki Maestro empowers their body for a dazing blow.

They make a melee attack, and on a hit, the creature must make a Will save or be dazed for 1 round.

Flurry — Active

Any
[3-]
Range: See text
Target: See text
Action: Full-round

The Ki Maestro deploys a withering barrage of light punches to beat enemies into submission.

They make a full attack, but get an additional number of unarmed, natural, or feral strikes equal to the number of pips on the first die. Those additional strikes get a penalty to hit equal to twice the number of pips on the first die.

Flourishes:
  • [3-] Quick Flurry: Flurry can be used as a Standard action.
  • [Any] Heavy Flurry: The bonus Flurry attacks gain a bonus to attack and damage equal to the number of pips on this die.

Parry — Active

Any
[Odd]
Range: See text
Target: See text
Action: Attack of Opportunity

The Ki Maestro takes advantage of a missed attack to punish the attacker.

When a melee attack misses the Ki Maestro, they may use Parry to make one unarmed, feral, or natural attack against the attacker that hits automatically, and moves the attacker 5' per pip in any direction.

When a ranged projectile or thrown attack misses the Ki Maestro, they may use Parry to redirect the attack to another target within 10' per pip on the first die, using the same attack roll.

Flourishes:
  • [6] Retribution: Parry may be used on a hit, so long as it is not a critical hit. Ranged attacks that are redirected but hit still also hit the Ki Maestro.

Lay on Hands — Active

Any
[6]
Range: Touch
Target: One creature
Action: Standard

The Ki Maestro uses ki to channel life energy into a touched creature.

If the maestro successfully touches the creature, it is healed for an amount of HP equal to the maestro's character level times their maestro save DC modifier (probably Wisdom). This is positive energy, so creatures harmed by positive energy take that much damage instead, with a fortitude save for half damage, and constructs are unaffected.

If the Ki Maestro is a construct or undead, Lay on Hands channels negative energy instead, which harms living creatures and heals undead.

Flourishes:
  • [Any] Healing Aura: Lay on Hands becomes an emanation with a radius of 5' per pip on this die, and does not require a touch attack, but only heals/damages 1d6 points per character level.

Master Forms[edit]

Quivering Palm — Active Ongoing

Any
[6]
Range: Attack
Target: One creature
Action: Attack

The Ki Maestro empowers their body for a dazing blow.

They make an unarmed, natural, or feral strike. When this form ends, if the attack hit, the creature must make a Fortitude save or die (this is a [Death] effect).

Flourishes:
  • [2+] Quivering Whirlwind: The maestro may attack a number of creatures equal to the number of pips on this die instead.

Alternating Strike — Active

Any
[3-]
Range: Attack
Target: See text
Action: Non-action

The Ki Maestro masters the art of alternating between combat maneuvers and damaging blows.

When they hit with a melee attack, they may use Alternating Strike to get a free trip, disarm, or grapple attempt against the target.

When they successfully trip, disarm, grapple, bull rush, or overrun a creature, they may use Alternating Strike to make a free melee attack, or throwing attack with the weapon they just disarmed, if they're holding it.

Any attack or combat maneuver done as part of Alternating Strike gets a bonus to attack and checks equal to the number of pips on the die.

Steeled in Soul — Active Ongoing

Any
[3+]
Range: Self
Target: Personal
Action: Immediate

The Ki Maestro steels their soul and the damage simply washes over them.

The maestro chooses a damage type as they activate this form, and becomes immune to that damage type for as long as this form is sustained.

Flourishes:
  • [Any] Greater Protection: The Ki Maestro also becomes immune to [Death] effects, [Fear] effects, poison, disease, sickening, and nausea while the form is sustained.

Mobile Stance — Passive Ongoing

Any
[Any]
Range: Self
Target: Personal

The Ki Maestro enters a loose and free-moving stance, where they have to keep moving.

After each attack the Ki Maestro makes, they get 5' of free movement with one of their speeds per pip on the first die. If they don't use the full movement, this form ends.

Flourishes:
  • [Same as the first die] Warp Stance: Instead of movement, the Ki Maestro gets to teleport that distance instead. This does not provoke attacks of opportunity, but if the maestro tries to teleport into an occupied space, the teleportation fails and the form ends.

Acupuncher — Active

Any
[Any]
Range: Touch
Target: One creature
Action: Standard

The Ki Maestro does a quick series of swift punches at the target's chakra loci to clear out harmful energies.

The target is cured of different status effects depending on the number of pips on the die. If using a die that counts its pips differently once placed, such as an Ultra die in this slot, the maestro may choose to use the actual number of pips instead.

1: Blinded, deafened, fascinated, dazzled

2: Shaken, frightened, panicked, cowering

3: Sickened, nauseated, fatigued, exhausted

4: Dazed, stunned, paralyzed

5: Asleep, confused

6: Ability damaged, ability drained, negative levels

7+: Unconscious, petrified, disabled, dead for fewer than 2 rounds (the creature is restored to 1 HP as well)

At One — Active Ongoing

Any
[Any]
Range: Personal
Target: Self
Action: Standard

The Ki Maestro learns to sense the energy in all things.

They gain 10' of blindsight for every pip on the first die. In addition, they can sense every creature's general intentions and emotional state within that range, even without line of effect, unless the creature carefully thinks misleading or inanimate thoughts with a successful bluff check opposed by the maestro's sense motive.

Flourishes:
  • [4+] Ping: When this form stops being sustained, the Ki Maestro pinpoints the location of all creatures with an intelligence score within the area, and knows their intelligence scores.

Ki Bolts — Active

Any
[Odd] [Even]
Range: Medium
Target: See text
Action: Full-round

The Ki Maestro lets loose a flurry of quick attacks, that extend from their limbs as ki bolts to strike distant foes.

They make a number of melee attacks equal to the number of pips on the first die, except that the attacks have a reach of 10' per pip on the second die, and deal force damage instead of their normal types.

Flourishes:
  • [1] Quick Bolts: Ki Bolts may be used as a standard action.

Ultra Forms[edit]

Ascendance — Active Ongoing

Any
[Any]
Range: Personal
Target: Self
Action: Standard

The Ki Maestro ascends beyond this petty material form, to become something greater.

They become incorporeal, and gain a perfect fly speed of 10' per pip on the first die. When this form ends, the maestro plane shifts to any other plane they've heard of, along with any equipment they are carrying and any creatures they are grappling. They may either arrive at a place they can describe with an inaccuracy of 5d100 miles, or arrive precisely at a place they've visited before.

Flourishes:
  • [Any] Ultimate Soul: The maestro becomes immune to death.

Transfer Ki — Active Ongoing

Any
[6]
Range: Touch
Target: One living creature
Action: Standard

The Ki Maestro transfers their energy into a living creature, disappearing into them.

If the maestro hits the creature with a touch attack and then the creature fails a will save, the maestro bodily transfers into pure soul energy and inhabits the creature. The maestro functionally ceases to exist, but gains control of the creature. The creature retains all its statistics and abilities, and gains the maestro's maestro abilities, whim dice, memories, and personality. If the creature is reduced to 0 or less HP, the maestro reappears adjacent to the creature and is dazed for 3 rounds. If this form ends, the maestro reappears adjacent to the creature but is not dazed.

If the maestro is a construct or undead creature, they can use Transfer Ki on constructs and undead, but only on constructs and undead.

Flourishes:
  • [Any] Detonation: When the maestro reappears, there is a dramatic soul explosion, a spread of 5' per pip on this die that deals 1d4+3 force damage per character level (with a reflex save for half damage) to creatures other than the maestro and the creature the maestro appeared out of.

Wrest Essence — Active

Any
[3-]
Range: Touch
Target: One living or undead grappled corporeal creature
Action: Standard

The Ki Maestro stops grabbing the creature's physical form to grab their soul instead and wrench it free.

If the ki maestro succeeds on an opposed grapple check against the creature, they pull out the creature's soul and move it anywhere within reach. The creature's physical form falls unconscious for as long as their soul is free, while their soul functions as an incorporeal copy of the creature, without the creature's equipment but with a perfect fly speed equal to its land speed. If the soul is killed, the body dies too, and if the body is killed, the soul dies too. The soul may return to its body by occupying the body's space and taking a full-round action to reattach.

Faster than the Mind — Active

Any
[1]
Range: Medium
Target: One creature
Action: Immediate

The Ki Maestro is so fast it seems nothing can escape their notice.

The maestro teleports adjacent to a creature and makes a melee attack against them, potentially interrupting their action. If the maestro attempts to teleport into an occupied space, Faster than the Mind fails.

Flourishes:
  • [Even] Everywhere at Once: Faster than the Mind can be used as an attack of opportunity, to teleport next to and attack a creature that provokes one.

Ki Beam — Active

Any
[Any] [Any]
Range: 25' per pip on the first die
Area: line, 5' wide per pip on the second die
Action: One-round action

The Ki Maestro charges up, and unleashes a beam of pure ki energy.

Creatures and unattended object in the area take 1d4+3 points of force damage per character level, and are stunned and blinded for 1 round. A reflex save halves the damage and negates the stunning and blinding.

Flourishes:
  • [Odd] Withering Beam: Creatures in the area take a number of points of Charisma damage equal to the number of pips on this die.

Ki Rejuvenation — Active

Any
[Odd]
Range: Touch
Target: One creature
Action: Full-round

The Ki Maestro channels an impressive amount of ki into a subject, restoring them to peak health.

The creature is restored to full health, cured of all status effects with a duration other than instantaneous, cured of all curses and other spell effects as by break enchantment with a caster level of the maestro's character level, brought back to life from death, and returned to young adult age. If the creature was undead, it is cured of its undead status or templates and restored to what it was in life. A creature is allowed a Fortitude save to negate.

If the maestro is a construct or undead, only undead and construct creatures are healed, and they don't lose their undead status. Dead living creatures are instead animated with the Tome Vampire template and then healed, and alive living creatures instead simply die (this is a [Death] effect).

Dodge Bullets — Passive Ongoing

Any
[Even]
Range: Personal
Target: Self

The Ki Maestro becomes so fast but so smooth, that they seem to blur out of the way as a strike would hit them

Attacks against the maestro have a 10% miss chance per pip on the first die. The maestro may choose to succeed on a save and take no effect on a successful save, but doing so ends this form.
