'''{{Anchor|Soul Drain}} (Su):''' A Vampire Wraith no longer hungers for the blood of his enemies, but rather their souls. He loses his Blood Drain and the Create Spawn ability, but gains the Soul Drain ability. A Vampire can drain the soul from a living victim by making a successful grapple check. If it pins the foe, it absorbs the soul of his opponent, dealing 1d4 negative levels each round the pin is maintained. A creature killed from the Soul Drain ability does not become a vampire spawn or a Wight, but is instead absorbed into the Vampire Wraith, becoming part of the Vampire Wraith. In addition, the Vampire Wraith gains the Soul Prison Salient Selection. If he already had the Soul Prison Salient Selection, he may choose any one Special Quality Salient Selection. This does not count toward the maximum number of Salient Selections a Vampire can have.

'''{{Anchor|Spirit Form}}:''' As a move action, the Vampire Wraith can destroy his physical body and enter the Plane of Shadow. When a Vampire Wraith reaches half health, he automatically enters his Spirit Form against his will after the damage is dealt. When at full health, the Vampire Wraith can regain its physical body by spending a Full Round action that provokes an attack of opportunity. When the Vampire Wraith is destroyed through a vampire weakness (for example, from sunlight, decapitation, staking or submersed in water) while in his physical form, his health drops to half and he instantly enters his spirit form instead of being destroyed. If the current plane has no Plane of Shadow, then a demiplane consisting only of himself is temporarily created, and lasts until he returns to his physical form.

They lose their Spirit Form qualities. Their maximum hit points are halved while in the Material Plane. While the Vampire Wraith is on a Material plane, they lose one hit point per hit die every minute that can not be healed with your fast healing while in the Material Plane. At zero HP or lower, they return to the plane of shadow (see returning to the Plane of Shadow)

'''{{Anchor|Returning to the Plane of Shadow}}:''' A Vampire Wraith can voluntarily return to the Plane of Shadow with a move action, and it is done involuntarily if the Vampire Wraith reaches zero HP, or is killed by a vampire weakness (for example, from sunlight, decapitation, staking or being submersed in water). They regain the missing half HP from materializing, but keep the damage that they had while in their Material form (For example, Billy, a Vampire Wraith with 100 Hit Points has 50 Hit points when in the Material plane. He took 25 points of damage while on the material plane, and decided to go back to the Plane of Shadow. Now, he regains his maximum of 100 Hit points, but has 75 hit points.)

A Vampire Wraith can use his Soul Drain ability on any one helpless creature within 30 feet, but it deals 2d4 negative levels. At 3rd level, the number of he can perform in one round becomes equal to his class level. At level 5, the range increases to 40 feet.

Raziel, Vampire Wraith.

Vampire Wraith[edit]

The vampire is eternal. That is, until he decides to take a stroll on a sunny day, take a dip in a pool of water, or is attacked by a lucky someone with a vorpal sword. At this point the vampire is done for. That is, if he does not become a Vampire Wraith.

A Vampire Wraith’s appearance drastically changes. His pale skin changes to a deep blue. He no longer has eyes, but the sockets glow , and his body becomes bony and emaciated. The clothes he was killed in become worn and tattered. (this has no in-game effect)

Becoming a Vampire Wraith[edit]

A Vampire who was destroyed somehow can become a Vampire Wraith two ways: Through force of will, or some powerful being can bring him back, and in return the Vampire is under the service of the being.

Class Levels: At least 3 levels in Salient Vampire.
Special: A powerful being must bring you back from the dead, or you must be strong enough to do so by your own will (DM's call)

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Vampire Wraith.

Soul Drain (Su): Vampire Wraiths no longer hunger for the blood of their enemies, but rather their souls. They lose their Blood Drain and Create Spawn abilities, but gain the Soul Drain ability. A Vampire Wraith can drain the soul from a living victim by making a successful grapple check. If they pin the foe, they absorb the soul of their opponent, dealing 1d4 negative levels each round the pin is maintained. A creature killed from the Soul Drain ability does not become a vampire spawn or a Wight, but is instead absorbed into the Vampire Wraith.

Spirit Form: When the Vampire first becomes a Vampire Wraith, they lose their physical form and are taken to the Plane of Shadow, where they are forced to stay until they use their Materialize ability.

Materialization (Su): When A Vampire Wraith is at full health, they can spend a full-round action to materialize a physical form and teleport to the Material plane.

Returning to the Plane of Shadow: A Vampire Wraith can voluntarily return to the Plane of Shadow with a move action, and it is done involuntarily if the Vampire Wraith reaches zero HP, or is killed by a vampire weakness (for example, from sunlight, decapitation, staking or being submersed in water).

Soul Siphon (Su): At second level, a Vampire Wraith learns a useful technique: They can absorb the souls of their victims at range. A Vampire Wraith can spend a full-round action that provokes an attack of opportunity to use its Soul Drain ability on any one helpless creature within 30 feet, but it deals 2d4 negative levels. At 3rd level, the number they can perform in one round becomes equal to their class level. At level 5, the range increases to 40 feet.

Salient Selection: : At 2nd and 4th level, the Vampire Wraith chooses one Salient Selection from the Salient Vampire monster class. Levels in Vampire Wraith count as levels in the Salient Vampire monster class for determining if they have the Improved Selection ability.

Soul Strength (Su): When a third level Vampire Wraith kills someone with its Soul Drain or Soul Siphon ability, it gains a +4 untyped bonus to his Strength score for 12 hours. This bonus does not stack with itself, if the Vampire Wraith kills someone with its Soul Drain ability, the timer resets to 12 hours.

Shadow Manifestation (Su): (Note: This ability will be re-written sometime) At fifth level, the Vampire Wraith gains the Manifestation ability; however instead of going to and from the Material Plane and the Ethereal plane, they go to and from the Material Plane and the Plane of Shadow. Anytime the Vampire Wraith enters its Spirit form, it can choose to either be only on the Plane of Shadow or manifested in the Material Plane. Also, the Vampire Wraith gains the Ghostly Grasp (Libris Mortis) as a bonus feat. A Vampire Wraith can manifest for either 5 rounds or half the sum of his Salient Vampire and Vampire Wraith class levels, whichever is higher, per encounter. (You can take the Lengthy Shadow Manifestation feat to increase the length, and can take Epic Shadow Manifestation to make it last even longer. (Forever))

Playing a Vampire Wraith[edit]

Combat: A Vampire Wraith's role in battle can be varied, depending on it's previous class, and it's Salient Selections.

Advancement: Most Vampire Wraiths take more levels in their base class after taking Vampire Wraith.

Resources: Because of their less than pleasant looks, most Vampire Wraiths operate alone, but some group together in order to further their goals.

Vampire Wraiths in the World[edit]

You have yet to run away from my horrible visage. Why is that?

NPC Reactions: To be honest, Vampire Wraiths look terrible. Without the aid of magic, most NPCs will run away from you.

Vampire Wraith Lore[edit]

Characters with ranks in Religion can research Vampire Wraiths to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Religion
DC Result
11 Vampire Wraith? Which one is it?
16 Oh, so it's a Vampire who turned into a Wraith.
21 When they go into their spirit form, they teleport to the Plane of Shadow.
26 Some can manifest into the material plane, like a ghost.
