1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.

A large elegant crossbow with a custom fire mechanism allowing it to fire special stakes. Reloading a witch-hunter stake crossbow requires a full-round action.

If you hit with a critical threat with a witch-hunter stake crossbow, the stake remains embedded inside of its target, dealing the weapon damage every round until removed. To remove a witch-hunter stake requires a DC 15 strength check or a heal DC 20 check, both as a full-round action. If the creature receives magical healing, the stake can be removed as a move action (no strength check required). Multiple stakes overlap, they do not stack.

As long as a creature has a stake embedded in it, if its damage reduction would be bypassed by the stake, it becomes completely negated. For example, a devil with a silver stake embedded into it would see its DR/silver completely negated until it removes the stake.

Normally, operating a witch-hunter stake crossbow requires two hands. However, you can shoot, but not load, a witch-hunter stake crossbow with one hand at a –4 penalty on attack rolls. You can shoot a witch-hunter stake crossbow with each hand, but you take a penalty on attack rolls as if attacking with two one-handed weapons. This penalty is cumulative with the penalty for one-handed firing.
