Wergerth[edit]

Wergerths are wolf-like shapechangers with a passion for the hunt. In appearance, they are extremely beast-like, but their body shape slightly resembles a humanoid body, causing them to be often confused with werewolves. It is said the wergerths originated from normal wolves who, after decades of feasting on human flesh, took a more twisted humanoid appearance and gained the ability to take on the guise of man. As shapeshifters, wergerths are tightly limited; they possess a single human form which somewhat resembles their true form. For example, a white-haired wergerth would have white or silver hair in its human form; if its original form is bulky, its human form will be, too. Most wergerths are chaotic or evil, with a few exceptions; despite this, they are excellent deceivers and know how to work in a group to attain what they want. Most (if not all) wergerths have a strong predatory instinct; evil wergerths typically embrace it while good wergerths do their best to suppress it.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom: Wergerths are powerful wolf-like creatures and thus are physically very imposing.
  • Magical Beast (Shapechanger): Wergerths are wolf-like creatures with limited shapechanging capacities.
  • Medium: As a Medium creature, a wergerth has no special bonuses or penalties due to its size.
  • Wergerth base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision: A wergerth can see in the dark up to 120 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and a wergerth can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Racial Skills: Wergerths receive a +4 racial bonus on Bluff, Hide, Intimidate, Listen, Move Silently, Search, Spot, and Survival checks.
  • Natural Weapons: Wergerths possess two feral strike claws and one feral strike bite (see below).
  • Monstrous Form (Ex): Wergerths are quadrupedal; their paws are not fit to wield weapons and they obviously pay nonhumanoid cost for armor.
  • Nightstalker (Ex): A wergerth gains the darkstalkerLoM and track feats as bonus feats.
  • Powerful Build (Ex): The physical stature of wergerths lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Whenever a wergerth is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the wergerth is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A wergerth is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a creature’s special attacks based on size (such as improved grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A wergerth can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category
  • Scent (Ex): Wergerths have scent
  • Shape Change (Su): A wergerth has the ability to change shape into a particular medium human form decided during character creation.
  • Superior Low-Light Vision (Ex): A wergerth can see four times as far as a human in low-light conditions.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Sylvan
  • Bonus Languages: Any non-secret
  • Favored Class: Any
  • Level Adjustment: +1
  • Effective Character Level: 2
