Adding randomness to the system tends to favor the enemies over players, and is more likely to end in the defeat of the party, making this a system that promotes TPKs (or at least player deaths) which is in general bad for the system.
Furthermore, the effects can often take the players out of the combat, meaning that they aren't engaged any longer and will be bored while they wait for the combat to end and for them to either be healed fully, or even longer if the party has no source of ready healing. Lastly, this favors either crit-fishers who will put down the BBEG in just a few hits without needing to do much damage, or monsters that have a ton of attacks who can do the same in a few rounds. In short, I think this variant actively hurts the game from a system design point of view. |
Alright. I'll put it in my sandbox and not move it back until I can think of some things that won't be as random or crazy. --MadmanFromSpace (talk) 13:42, 5 August 2019 (MDT)
