Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the sage.

Weapon & Armor Proficiency: A sage gains no additional proficiencies with any weapons or armor.

Spellcasting: With every new class level, the sage gains new spells known, spells per day, and additional spellcasting advancement in his highest level arcane casting class.

High Arcana: An sage’s level of control over his magical energies far surpasses that of any normal spellcaster. At each level of sage, he may choose a form of high arcana (from the list below):

Arcane Fire (Su): The sage may spend a spell slot (minimum 1st level) to unleash a blast of flames at a single enemy within Long range (400 feet + 40 feet per caster level) against whom he makes a ranged touch attack. The amount of damage dealt by this attack is equal to the sage’s caster level multiplied by the damage dice rolled. These dice vary depending on the level of the spell slot spent.

Table: Arcane Fire
Level of Spell Slot Used Damage Dice Per Caster Level
1st 1d4
2nd 1d6
3rd 1d8
4th 1d10
5th 2d6
6th 2d8
7th 3d6
8th 3d8
9th 4d6

Arcane Reach (Sp): The sage may cast spells melee touch spells out to a distance of 30 feet, and may also cast touch spells (melee or ranged) as attacks of opportunity. He is treated as having reach out to 30 feet with this ability so long as may cast a touch spell. Casting a spell with this ability consumes a spell slot normally, but does not increase the level of the spell cast. These spells can be altered via metamagic, but doing so affects the spell’s level normally. The sage cannot use this extended reach for any other attack forms.

Element Mastery (Su): The sage gains Energy Substitution as a bonus feat, allowing him to swap the elemental damage type and spell descriptors for any elemental spell, spell-like, or supernatural ability in for another element. In addition, any elemental spells the sage casts gain bonus effects based on their particular element type and spell level.

Mastery of Counterspelling (Sp): In addition to gaining Improved Counterspell as a bonus feat, the sage no longer needs to ready an action in order to counter a spell (although he may still do so if he wishes). He now has the option of counterspelling as an immediate action, so long as he is able to cast an appropriate counterspell at that moment. In addition, all countered spells are now reflected as if by spell turning if the sage succeeds on a roll of 1d20 + the level of the spell slot expended vs. 10 + level of the spell countered.

Mastery of Shaping (Sp): <-subclass feature game rule information->.

Spell Defense (Su): A sage can elect to choose a spell he knows with a range of “Personal” and a spell level no higher than his highest level minus three (so a sage who can cast 7th level spells can use this ability for any applicable spell of 4th level or lower. That spell is now permanently active so long as the sage wishes; if dispelled, the sage may reactivate it the next round as a free action. As a swift action, the sage can change the spell that is made permanent in this manner.

Spell Power (Sp): All the sage’s damage-dealing spells are automatically maximized and empowered without an increase in spell level. All spells that require saves also gain a bonus to their save DC’s equal to +1 per sage level, and an identical bonus is applied to spells.

Sagacity (Sp): The sage’s magic is just plain better. He no longer ever needs to use arcane material components or XP costs to cast spells. In addition, all limits on caster level-dependent numerical effects for any of the sage’s arcane spells are removed.
