Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Apocryphist.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An Apocryphist is proficient with all simple weapon as well a light armor and light shields.

Spells: An Apocryphist cast divine spells primarily from the cleric spell lis. She can cast any spell she has ingrained from her prayerbook, much like a bard or sorcerer can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time.

To ingrain or cast a spell, an apocryphist must have a Intelligence score of at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a apocryphist's spell is 10 + the spell level + the apocryphist's Charisma modifier.

Like other spellcasters, an apocryphist can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Apocryphist Table: The apocryphist . In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Intelligence score.

Like a sorcerer, a apocryphist knows only a small number of spells. However, each day a apocryphist may change the spells she has ingrained. When a apocryphist consult her prayerbook to regain her daily allotment of spells (see below), she is able to ingrain a new set of spell inscribed in her prayerbook. She can cast any spell she has ingrained at any time, assuming she has not yet used up her spells per day for that spell level.

If a apocryphist knows any metamagic feats, she applies them to her spells when she ingrain her spells for the day. For example, a apocryphist might choose to retrieve an empowered flame strike by using a 7th-level spell ingrained slot. Any time she uses flame strike during the ensuing day, she must use a 7th-level spell slot to cast it, and it is always empowered. An apocryphist could use a 5th-level spell slot and a 7th-level spell slot to retrieve flame strike and empowered flame strike if she wanted to have both spells available to her in a day. A apocryphist cannot choose to alter her spells with metamagic feats on the fly, as other spontaneous casters do. Apocryphist using metamagic feats do not have an increased casting time as sorcerers do.

Prayerbook (Ex): Unlike a cleric, an apocryphist does not receive her daily spell complement from whatever deity or cosmic force he worships. Rather, she must seek out and collect new spells much as a wizard does, but from such esoteric sources as holy tablets, ancient steles, or other magical scriptures. She cannot ingrain any spell not recorded in his prayerbook except for read magic, which apocryphist can prepare from memory.

An apocryphist begins play with a prayerbook containing all 0-level cleric spells plus three 1st-level cleric spells of the player's choice. For each point of Intelligence bonus the apocryphist has, the prayerbook has an additional 1st-level cleric spell. At each new class level, the apocryphist gains two new cleric spells for his prayerbook; these can be of any spell level or levels that she can cast (based on her new apocryphist level). At any time, an apocryphist can also add spells found on scrolls containing divine spells to her prayerbook, but she must make any rolls and spend the time required (see Adding Spells to a Wizard's Spellbook on page 178 of the Player's Handbook). The apocryphist can learn and thus ingrain nonclerical divine spells in this fashion but the two free spells she gains for advancing in class level must be selected from the cleric spell list.

The apocryphist start with 3 uses of dark secret every day, at 3rd level and each 3 level thereafter she gain an additional use for the day.
