Personality

Mighty hunter gatherer nomads, the bugbears value their harsh, rugged way of life. To that end they value their own personal freedom, and not much of anyone else's. Often they stretch the definition of gatherer until it is indistinguishable from thief or brigand, gathering the former belongings of goblinoids.

Bugbears are used to being the biggest baddest goblins around, a point they butt heads with Hobgoblins over. A bugbear will tell you that his more 'civilized' cousins wouldn't last a day without someone telling him what to do from dawn till dusk.

Physical Description

Living in rugged tribal nomad societies, bugbears work up a tolerance to the rigors of life outdoors. They are covered in thick skin usually full of the scars of natural hazards.

Bugbears as Characters

Bugbear characters possess the following racial traits.

• Humanoid (Goblinoid)
• Medium: As Medium creatures, bugbears gain no bonuses or penalties based on size.
• Bugbear base land speed is 30 feet.
• Darkvision (Ex): Bugbears have darkvision out to 60 feet.
• Thick Hide (Ex): +2 natural armor bonus.
• Hearty Constitution (Ex): 2 extra HP per HD.
• +4 racial bonus on Intimidate checks.
• +4 racial bonus on Move Silently check in forest terrain.
• Automatic Languages: Common, Goblin. Bonus Languages: Draconic, Elven, Giant, Gnoll, Orc.
• Favored Class: Barbarian.
• Level Adjustment: +1
• Effective Character Level: 2

To drop to Effective Character Level: 1: Remove either Thick Hide or Hearty Constitution.
