Fighter
“ | Don't worry my fellows, I know how to take on this fire elemental, the three rust monsters and 4 ghouls myself. | ” |
The fighter is a master of martial combat, defense and battle. They represent folks from many walks of life, such as mercenaries, heroes, soldiers, bodyguards etc. They are prepared for a wide variety of combat problems. If something requires a new solution they can find a way quickly to deal with the issue. In combat they have a vast variety of choices and outstanding mastery of weapons and armors.
Playing a Fighter
Fighters are often seen as pretty weak in comparison to other classes such as psionic and magic users. This seeks to transform the class into one that can compete and not be useless at high levels. This is a class that can take abuse, deal it and know how to deal it well. They are far more versatile then vanilla fighters in and out of combat.

Class Features[edit]
All of the following are class features of the fighter.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A fighter is proficient with all simple, all martial weapons, three exotic weapons of their choice, and with all armor (heavy, medium, and light) and shields (including tower shields).
Bonus Feats: At 1st and 20th level, a fighter gets 2 bonus combat-oriented feats in addition to the feat that any 1st-level character gets and the bonus feat granted to a human character.
Fighter Bonus The fighter at every fighter level at each level may choose from one of the following choices, these may be chosen as many times as the fighter wishes:
1.They gain two additional ability score points that are either intelligence, constitution, strength or dexterity. They may split the two points to two different ability scores if they wish.
2. They gain an additional bonus feat. These bonus feats must be drawn from the feats noted as fighter bonus feats or from feats that do not require psionic or magic usage or involve their usage. A fighter must still meet all prerequisites for a bonus feat, including ability score and base attack bonus minimums.
These bonus feats are in addition to the feat that a character of any class gets from advancing levels. A fighter is not limited to the list of fighter bonus feats when choosing these feats.
3. They gain an additional 10 feet of movement speed which stacks with other boosts.
4. They gain on all physical melee or ranged attacks an additional 2d4 damage to their attacks.
5. The fighter gains an additional 3 BAB. Note this can't give them more then 5 attacks.
Fighting Combat Expertise : A fighter of 3rd level gets combat expertise automatically even if they do not meet the prerequisites. If the fighter has already learned it, they may choose another feat for which they meet the requirements. At 9th level they can no longer be surprised. At level 14 they can no longer be caught flatfooted. At level 18 they can no longer be flanked.
Battle Application: At levels 2, 5, 8, 12, 15, 19 a fighter may add 1/2 their fighter level to attack rolls, damage rolls, initiative rolls, dodge bonuses, skill checks, will saves, ability score checks and combat actions with DC such as disarm, bullrush, overrun etc. Each combat action is a separate choice for the fighter. The fighter may choose at the specified levels which option they wish to add their bonus to. Each option can only be chosen once. These bonuses stack with other bonuses and combat actions stack with any of the other listed battle application choices.
Hardened: At levels 4, 7, 10, 13, 16 and 19 the fighter gets +1 stacking bonuses to saves against fear, confusion and fascination effects.
Combat Learning: At level 6 a fighter who witnesses a fighter feat or any feat that is not magic or psionic based in combat or experiences it in combat can attempt to learn the feat. The rules for this are demonstrated in this example.
A fighter who saw a foe or other character/npc use sharp-shooting in combat but does not know it can attempt to learn the feat in a week long process. A number of factors affect the learning process, how many related feats the fighter knows, the intelligence level of the fighter and attributive modifier related to the feat. If the fighter knew precise shot, point blank shot, rapid shot, they would gain a bonus to attempt to learn sharp shooting. Next if the fighter also had 14 dexterity which is associated with range they gain a bonus, additionally their intelligence modifier adds to the attempt, finally the number of times they have witnessed or experienced the feat affects the chances. The formula and DC for learning a new feat is as follows:
A intelligence check that is DC 25 - fighter's intelligence modifier -the number of related feats or abilities - the fighter's most appropriate attribute for the feat.
So a fighter who wanted to learn sharp shooting who had 11 intelligence, knew the three feats, had 14 dexterity and saw sharp shooting being used three times would at the end of a week of training make a DC 17 Intelligence check to learn sharp shooting. If they pass it they learn the feat. This does not interfere with the bonus feats the fighter already gets or learns as they level up. If they fail they may attempt to learn it again after another week of training. The fighter may not take 10, 15 or 20 on the check.
A fighter must still meet any requirements to learn the feat.
Fighter can learn more then one feat at a time but each additional feat increases the DC by 2 for each feat learned.
A friendly character may assist the fighter in learning a feat, in this case add that character's intelligence modifier to subtract from the DC of learning a new feat
At level 12 it now only takes a day of training to learn, at level 20 you no longer have a DC increase for learning more then one feat at a time.
At the player's and DM's discretion the fighter may attempt to learn creature abilities or moves that the fighter could reasonably do. For instance a fighter could learn improved grab, rake and pounce but could not learn swallow whole or a breath weapon unless their race would reasonably be able to learn or do either. For these abilities use common sense, how many similar feats or abilities that the fighter knows that would aid in learning the ability or how difficult learning the ability would be. The DC for learning the ability is a DC 25 intelligence check that has the following formula 25 - Intelligence modifier- amount of related abilities or feats- the most appropriate ability score modifier. Again this takes the listed time to learn and the fighter may not take 10, 15 or 20 on the check.
Fast Attack: A fighter at level 11 may make a full attack as a standard action, at level 15 they may do it as a swift action a number of times per encounter equal to 1/2 their fighter level.
Martial Tactics At level 2 and each even number level after the fighter gains access to a list of special tactics they may do in combat. Some of the tactics have prerequisites to use.
