This ooze shimmers like a silver mirror when viewed from some angles but is transparent from other viewpoints. One would confuse it for a massive dollop of the substance known as quintessence, were it not trying to eat you right now.
Found in places where space and time have been altered in some way, time oozes are a mystery to many. Scholars are yet uncertain if this is an actual natural living creature which feeds on entropy, a magical experiment, born from outside time and space, or not even a creature per se at all, but some yet still not understood physical property of things outside the natural order. Their resemblance to quintessence is uncanny, and on death they collapse into a ball of the silvery goo. Time oozes seem to naturally feed on entropy, and are found in places where entropy and decay are high. In their passive state, they spread their bodies out in root-like patterns like a slime mold and are in a state not unlike temporal stasis. However they are only nearly invulnerable, and sufficient disruption can wake them up and compress them into the much more familiar oval shaped orb of jelly most are familiar with.
Time oozes do not talk, and have no scent.
Combat[edit]
Time oozes are normally very passive, actively ignoring creatures and staying in its personal temporal stasis, slowly drawing energy from the increase in entropy in the environment. If disturbed or unusually hungry (such as being in a place with minimal entropy) it will actively attack creatures to increase entropy. It uses its auras to keep the opponent from fighting effectively and uses chronological engulf on anything it can't handle in a straight up brawl.
Curiously, though time oozes are not "magic" creatures per se, they blink out of an antimagic field as if they were incorporeal.
Aura of Timewarp (Su): As a swift action a time ooze can enter any number of auras which affect it and its surroundings out to a 10 ft radius. Auras last indefinitely until it chooses to adapt a new aura.
Chronological Engulf (Su): The time ooze can engulf any Medium or smaller grappled or flatfooted creature with a touch attack as a standard action. The creature is engulfed by its body and frozen in time as if under temporal stasis. However they will proceed to take 1d10 damage each round (as if exposed to Entropy) until they crumble into dust or are freed. Killing the ooze, or dealing 50 points of damage in a single round, is enough to free the engulfed creature. The engulfed creature is unaware of the passage of time and cannot act, but they get a Fortitude save each round (DC 20) to halve the damage. Three successful saves in a row ejects the creature prone and staggered for 1 round in the next nearest valid space.
Entropy (Su): Making any kind of physical contact with a hostile time ooze results in its rapid decay, as if aged. It deals 1d10 points of damage, though creatures that don't age at all (such as constructs) and long-lived objects such as stone and metal do not take damage. It applies to their slam attack. Creatures which die from the entropy damage crumble into a pile of dust.
Personal Temporal Stasis (Su): As a standard action the time ooze can freeze itself in time, spreading out in chaotic lightning-like patterns across the walls, floors, and ceiling. This is similar to being in temporal stasis, though it is aware and can unfreeze at any time. It only generally does so when in danger, or if it has taken 50 points of damage or more from a single attack. The damage does not hurt it in this state, but it will unfreeze in the following round.
