Terios the Controller of Chaos[edit]

Born to conquer the chaotic planes from the greatest scientific minds Mechanus had to offer, Terios took on the power of chaos... and lost. Or, did he?

Level: 5th

Binding DC: 23

Special Requirement: None.

Legend[edit]

In the days before history Law and Chaos were at war. The powers of law and the proto-plane of Mechanus sought desperately to combat an enemy they could not understand, and after failure after failure they developed a plane. No lawful mind could comprehend the opponent, but one tainted by chaos yet bound by law might. And so their greatest minds created the ultimate lifeform, a warrior capable of channeling chaos while not yet falling prey to it. This lifeform has often been depicted as possessing hair or horns that stand up straight, a steely gaze, wrapped in red and skin as black as coal. Thus it was deployed, but this being was flawed. Some say it was corrupted by chaos, others claim it had succeeded in comprehending chaos and thus was indistinguishable from chaos, and some simply state it had forgotten its purpose and lived its life as a mortal. Whoever it was, his shadow remains to be called upon by binders.

Manifestation[edit]

Your shadow grows dark and long, forming a shape not of your own but of this ultimate lifeform. It demands to know what your intent is with seeming malice and hostility, but so long as the binder shows no fear it will agree. The shadows boil, rise up, and envelop the binder in black smoke and the contract is made.

Sign[edit]

Your hair seems spikier, your clothing or hair adopts red stripes, and you appear to be an "evil doppleganger" of yourself though it has no effect on your alignment.

Influence[edit]

You become edgy and intense in all things you do, never smiling and accepting everything with grim duty. When faced with the forces of chaos you prefer to conquer them whenever possible, yet you find yourself also stifled and shackled against forces that would command you.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Air Skates[edit]

The ultimate lifeform was said to have mechanical augments that allowed it to sail across the ground at high velocity. You gain a pair of hoverskates as a move action with an endless energy supply. If your feet slot is already occupied you can switch between your original foot slot item and the air skates as a move action. The skates vanish if removed.

Chaos Control[edit]

By navigating the inherent chaotic instabilities in the world the ultimate lifeform could travel through space and time. As a standard action you duplicate the effects of time stop, but can only make move actions while in stopped time. If you do anything other than move (or perform no action) or do any effect which requires Concentration the effect immediately ends. Once the time stop ends you may not use it again for 5 rounds.

Chaos Spear[edit]

You forge the chaotic energy in the world into a destructive force. Once every 1d4 rounds you may make a ranged touch attack out to 60 ft, which deals 1d6 points of damage per level.

Environmental Durability[edit]

Within the realms of chaos the ultimate lifeform had to deal with volcanos that would spontaneously transform into windstorms, acid pits, or even more threats. Whenever you take damage from an environmental effect the damage is minimized, and is non-lethal. This includes damage from re-entry (the air skates render immunity to falling damage) and the burning effect of the Plane of Fire, but no other source of fire such as a fireball. As part of this, you are immune to extreme pressure changes and you no longer need to eat, sleep, or breathe while bound.

Weapon Proficiency[edit]

For reasons unknown to binders the ultimate lifeform seems well versed in firearms and futuristic weaponry in spite of being an ancient being. Some say this is evidence that it was not destroyed by chaos but instead flung into the far future. You are proficient in up to five firearms, including exotic firearms, of your choice. In games without firearms you can instead choose five exotic weapons.
