Casting time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: One item weighing no greater than 5 lb./level (see text)

Spell Resistance: Yes (object)

This spell tempers an item, instantly adding hit points and hardness. The item must weigh no more than five pounds per caster level of the caster. For every 4 caster levels (up to 20 caster levels), increase the item's hit points by 2 per inch of thickness and increase hardness by 1. The bonuses granted by tempering do not stack, but can be used to overlap on an item already tempered or hardened. This tempering bonus stacks with the hardness enhancement granted by the magical enhancement from enchanting weapons and armor.

Items which are broken, taken apart, reforged, or otherwise reformed lose this bonus.

Material Component: A supply of diamonds worth at least 20 gp per 4 caster levels.

Hardening & Enhancement

This is a variation on hardening designed to offer a wide variety of items the benefits of increased resilience.

Enchanted armors, weapons and shields benefit from 2 additional hardness and 10 hit points per +1 of enhancement bonus.
