This seems pretty reasonable to me. Either you are a good hero, in which case being around good-aligned things is likely and you have to worry about being burned or taking penalties, or you're an evil party member and you are already dealing with good/anti-evil stuff, you can't hide it as easy, and the vampire-thing limits your social encounters.
I don't see the problem. Amusing, I find the vampire entry into homes things the most harmful, and that is universal to all alignments. Especially when you're a murderhobo who wants to enter people's homes and take their stuff. |

The penalties don't seem to be very significant in most traditional D&D games where you play homeless hobos who go underground to kill fantastic creatures and take their stuff. |
