Well done; well done indeed.

Concerns

I have concerns with the possibility of a 3rd level SoD (applying it to a cantrip), even when dealing with a level 12+ caster. --Undead_Knave (talk) 05:27, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

I figured it could be problematic. What if it was 15th or 18th CL? What if it could affect only targets with less HDs than your CL? Or if the caster suffered one spellstrain level per spell level? --The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 07:47, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Shared concern[edit]

This can quickly become a game-buster: instant annihilator in many cases. Especially against various undead types, including spectral (i.e wraith, shadow, among others)

Since nuclear forces include heat, pressure, shockwave, and more, I might suggest the spell does an extra 1d6 damage per level of the spell, of fire, sonic, and acidic (acidic representing the radiation effects), to a maximum of 10d6 each.

For that matter, there is no consideration taken for a force-effect for a bull-rush, stunning, deafening, or such as well. Overall this feat has potential, though it could use more clarification.

My original idea was to add something to fire spells but I changed it to what is now. Your suggestion is charming and I could really change it, it's probably more fitting for a nuclear spell (in this case I would add you as a contributor).
Regarding the present effect I would like to keep it, at least for another feat. Incorporeal creatures: I thought about making them immune, but that would make physical creature more weak than they already are. If you have suggestions on this, please post them on the topic above. --The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 08:01, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
I dunno about this one. It turns whatever spell its on into a save or die. I don't know if that's your main intent. If your main intent is to have people explode at some point may I suggest they explode on death, or explode on level based threshold like some kind of Power Word Kill spell? You could add the other nuclear themed effects on this, be it "your fire is now typeless" or "you are sickened from radiation" or whatever. I'd help more, but first I want to establish main intent. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 08:39, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

One topic to rule them all[edit]

Ok, let's discuss the feat here.

I will change it as suggested by foxdownfarms (multiple energy damage, bull rush) and maybe add something that Eiji said (sickened condition for sure, I'm not sure about the fire damage into typeless damage, I like it and it was one of my original options, but maybe for another feat, though I admit it fits. I could even make all elemental damage effectively typeless and ignore all immunity/resistance or maybe just resistance, idk I'm kinda reluctant on stacking so many effects). In any case this will be the new Nuclear Spell.

With all this said, I still want to use the disintegrate effect, probably in something like "Pulverizing Spell", applied to Force spells only, maybe with an higher CL as a requirement (maybe even epic), and I'd like to balance it with something like what Eiji said on level based threshold. Maybe instead of saving throw against a fixed DC it could be against a caster level check?

My intent was to make a metamagic feat that could utterly destroy targets. Maybe a bit too much? Ask for any clarification--The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 10:51, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

The feat itself has potential, if nothing else, aside from using force-spells, maybe, as with the reserve feats, the need to be able to cast third-or-fourth level spells.

Nuclear Magic Missile[edit]

Hey, so what exactly happens if you make Magic Missile a nuclear spell? You get five, auto-hitting missiles when you can take this feat. Does each missile get +10d4 of acid, sonic and fire damage? "5th level slot for five 31d4 missiles that make people explode" makes me giggle in a way that makes me feel this is broken. ValravenApocalypse (talk) 00:52, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

Hey there! The missiles shouldn't have +10d4 damage each, but I better specify it. Thanks for the heads-up! ---The bluez in the dungeon (talk) 07:20, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
