Perfect Strike[edit]
I sure hope that you're planning on putting a limit to that ability, such as one per day or per encounter (even then, it's still very strong). Also, you should probably limit it to strikes that are resumed as a Standard Action, no? -HarrowedMind (talk) 03:36, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- I am still not 100% pleased with the ability, i want to make it powerfull and worth getting there not dipping... As disgusted as i am by the swordsage capstone 3 / per day! usage, by playing with some numbers, yeah it seems too much, even tho you cut your number of strikes befor meditating in half and no sane person will spend all 12 readied maneuvers on strikes alone i think... Hm... maybe a 3 - 4 times per encounter limitation for the "heartstopper-makeyourheaexplode-whileyoubleedtodeath-andareflungintolava-whileiatatatatatatackyou" ultimate mega stike combination tecnique of the high masters. And yes, ill have to limit it to standard action strikes, it gives too much movement with charge and those move and do stuff strikes. --Sergejsvk (talk) 22:55, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
- Changed Perfect strike yet aggain, i hate per day, or per anything with a passion. Instead changed the action type of using it to swift. This way your action economy limits it, you either double strike, counter or use a boost. It uses your readied maneuvers so you burn through strikes and then have to either recover, or hit stuff the boring way. --Sergejsvk (talk) 17:47, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
No Ranged Combat Love[edit]
Would it be game breaking to allow Weapon Training (which I assume allows Ki Strike to apply to monk weapons) to also apply to ranged monk weapons like shuriken? -Amdillae (talk) 10:56, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well, it could maybe apply to thrown weapons. Technicaly it already does on daggers, they are light thrown weapons with a 10 ft. increment. I would say no to ranged weapons (x bows, and the sling), Javelins are borderline as they have a decent range increment (returning Javelins + quick draw + twf). Tho you have to think about a dedicated thrower with 2d10 + enhacement shurikens barraging people and using ToB escape techniques and strikes. If it doens't scare your DM then by all means go wild :). --Sergejsvk (talk) 20:05, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
AC Bonus[edit]
I see the AC bonus in the chart, but it isn't mentioned in the description. Does your Monk variant get their wisdom to AC like the Monk does? or like the Swordsage does? Tunganation (talk) 00:37, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- Just the things mentioned in the "Replaces" section are well... replaced, the table below is just to make it simpler at first glance. Your monk will look like in the table below the text. The AC bonus is not replaced. --Sergejsvk (talk) 19:44, 24 December 2014 (UTC)
- O.k. I was just wondering as the swordsage can light armor and keep their wisdom bonus, when the default monk, cannot. Tunganation (talk) 03:53, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Increasing Weapon Options Based on Martial School[edit]
I was wondering if a ACF for this ACF that could be viable is to lose proficiency with monk weapon and instead are proficient with only the weapons from one schools you have chosen maneuvers from at first level and treat only those weapons as monk weapon (in addition to unarmed strikes of course) To me it adds flavour to customise based on martial school for flavour as a sort of flip of what you already have. -Amdillae (talk) 08:10, 10 March 2015(UTC)
- I was considering it in the first drafts. I discarded it for two reasons:
- 1. Rapier, Scimitar, Falichion, !->Spiked Chain<-! - High crit ranges combined with the raw damge (especialy the 1 handed) added by Weapon Training seems a tad much. Add to that the gem maneuver line... An then there is the Spiked Chain, it is so good that it eclipses all other weapons (all other weapons should be like this in diferent ways). People take EWP for that wonderfull thing. It is a Short Haft feated (but better no action loss) Finessable Guisarme. The base monk weapons seemed a lot tamer.
- 2. Adding those weapons would, in my opinion, shift the class from the "shaolin monk" feel to a more "martial artist" from chinese movies type character. I know that them monks use Scimitars, Falchions, and totaly absolutely wonky weapons. Its just how i felt about it. (There is a posibility for a martial artist - the Unarmed Swordsage)
- A solution for this specific ACF, could be for me to pick out one weapon for each discipline, that is shaolin monk-ish and in line with the monk weapons. This would maybe make the ACF for this ACF redundant. (Spiky chains are too awesome to be given for free!). I'll give it a shot in my sandbox. --Sergejsvk (talk) 17:33, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
- I checked stuff on the interweb. Shaolin seem to use all the weapons! The base weapons are The Staff, The Broad Sword, The Spear, The Straight Sword. Whese should be basic monk weapons irl. Then there are 96 more weapons listed... Most are variants of the basics, some are "standard" european weapons with funky names, some are freakishly exotic and hard to use but awesome if you can (3 segment staff, chain whip, meteor hammer, rope dart). So the basics in dnd terms are club, dagger, short sword, longsword, greatsword, kukri, scimitar, falchion, halberd, glaive, quarterstaff, trident, spear, longspear. All the else is exotic training. Kama, nunchaku, sai, shuriken, siangham in the monk weapon prof. listing is baffling (We need more Japan in our Asia!)... i miss the tonfa in the context (can't get more karate). So we have the basic dnd monk stuff, i'll work from there to incorporate the non exotic weapons. I won't add weapons with extreme crit mods/chances as the damage of those balances them, which is irelevant for this ACF, nor exotic weapons, and the max damage will be 1d8. Curved blades (scimitar and co.) will get replaced by axes (call them Dao), straigth blades are no problem, spears ok... So 3 weapon groups, 9 disciplines... thats easy! Don't forget to two hand the one handers for 1 1/2 str mod! PS: Shaolin used shields doh... Rattan ones... o.O --Sergejsvk (talk) 20:10, 12 March 2015 (UTC)
