The bard stood alone on the stage. With a sweeping gesture and a cry of "Back me up you guys," suddenly we saw.... the band.
This spell creates a small troupe of illusory performers who can accompany the performance of a bard. The exact nature of the troupe depends on the type of performance being made: a singer may summon some backup singers who will softly harmonize with him, a dancer may create several backup dancers who duplicate her movements or simple musicians to provide her with a beat to dance to, an orator may have a small greek chorus of voices, etc. The performers are clearly illusions, and the bard can decide the details of the backup performers at the time of the spell's casting.
The performers add both visual and auditory impact to the bard's performance while leaving the bard himself squarely in the spotlight, providing a competence bonus on the bard's perform checks equal to the bard's caster level. They perform as long as the bard is performing, or until dismissed or the spell ends, moving with the bard up to the limit of the spell's area. The bard must remain within 90 feet of the backup performers in order to receive the benefit from their backup performance.
