These two-handed shields have a spike placed at each of its vertical extremities. Sometimes they are built with hooks and blades meant for stabbing. A dueling long shield is a double weapon which grants the wielder a +2 shield bonus to AC when wielded. It is typically used as a protective two-handed weapon rather than a double weapon. Unless the wielder has the [[SRD:Improved Shield Bash |Improved Shield Bash]] then she loses her shield bonus to AC for 1 round if she uses the dueling long shield to make an off-hand attack. An off-hand attack with a dueling long shield counts as a shield bash when advantageous.
A dueling shield is enhanced as a double weapon and as a shield. They can be made of either wood or metal, a metal dueling shield weighs an additional 4 lbs more and has a have an hardness of 10.
