The broad longsword, usually called broadsword , is similar to a common longsword in lenght, since it typically features a double-edged blade and a cruciform hilt; however, as the name suggests, the Broadsword has a wider and heavier blade (it weights almost as much as a bastard sword) wich enhances the cutting capacity of the weapon over the thrusting attitude. For that reason, its blade has edges running parallel most of the sword lenght, except for the tip, and even the tip of the sword is broader and more spatulate than the tip of a longsword.
The broadsword usually has a basket hilt to protect the wielder’s hand, but some are made without the basket hilt.
