It seems that the spell gain per day is like saying for every level you get you get 2 levels. If you were to go 8 cleric/5 purifier you're effectively a level 20 cleric (ignoring all the other bonuses) by level 13. I feel like prestige classes need some form of niche that they fulfil, rather than just being all around better.
