::I attributed the lack of shield and the fact they share bonuses to be due to the fact that this class is fighter level. Doing as you said would place the class into rogue-level territory, I think. :::They don't get scaling bonus damage sources aside from equipment, don't get status effects on their strikes aside from equipment (except the 1/round thing at 17, which isn't very much), and don't have any utility abilities outside of skills and what they buy on gear.
