On the weathered haft of this spear, below the snake-skin grip, is carved the moniker "Snakespeare" to which this weapon hath so been called.
When used in combat, this weapon serves as a +1 shortspear. The weapon grants the wielder a +2 bonus on checks against it being disarmed. As a standard action, the wielder can cause the spear to transform into a medium viper once per day for a duration of 1 minute. The wielder can command the serpent as if it were summoned by a summon monster I spell. If killed in serpent form, it immediately reverts to spear form. The serpent's bite attack deals applies any material and enhancement bonus from the spear's form.
The weapon's material (such as alchemical silver or adamantine) can be reforged, paying the added difference of the new material applied to it, refunding half of the previous material's value in the process.
It's enhancements count the item as an effective +1 total enhanced weapon for further enhancement.
