Dark and translucent, this buckler doesn't seem like much. But if you look at it in the dark it seems much larger.
A +1 steel light shield composed of shadow, it is completely weightless. It provides no special benefits on its own. However, in shadowy illumination it takes on the appearance and properties of a heavy shield, and in total darkness it becomes a tower shield with no -2 penalty on attack or maximum Dexterity. You can always choose not to progress it to its next level or alter it a level within your limit as a free action once per round. You retain proficiency, even if you are not normally proficient with tower shields.
The shield's insubstantial nature has a downside; if struck by [Light] damage or from a 5th level or higher [Light] spell the shield disintegrates but will reform in your hand or at your feet (if your hands are full) once the light source is gone.
Prerequisites: Craft Magic Arms and Armor, shadow conjuration.
