Pygmy Sarcophagus[edit]

A strange, massive shield shimmering with occult energy. A pygmy sarcophagus is a bronze +3 mobile wall standing at around 6 feet tall, it is extremely thick and heavy but it inside was hollowed. The bronze of the shield has been extensively worked with occult runes and strange symbols, perhaps the most unnerving part of the shield is the sculpture of a jungle pygmy with oversized sharp teeth sculpted on shield plate.

A pygmy sarcophagus is hollowed and can in fact be opened as a full-round action, the inside of the bronze shield is covered in a thin sheet of thinaun. The true power of the pygmy sarcophagus come when one place the corpse of a medium or smaller recently deceased creature inside the shield. Upon doing so the eyes on the pygmy sculpture light up with an eerie blue light and the shield gain strange occult powers. The soul of the placed creature is trapped into the shield, thus the creature cannot be raised or enjoy it proper afterlife until released. The shield may not be opened until the corpse inside is destroyed (see below).

The wearer of a pygmy sarcophagus can communicate with the body hidden inside as a full-round action, replicating the effect of speak with dead. Since the soul is still trapped inside the sarcophagus this ability in fact communicate with the soul, although it is unable to resist the power of the shield and will answer any question truthfully.

As a 1 round action the wielder may summon the spirit of the deceased, the creature statistic are identical to a simulacrum of the deceased creature with ghost template. You can force the spirit back into the pygmy sarcophagus as a standard action. After one cumulative hour of servitude pass the mouth of the pygmy carving open and the corpse is spit in bloodied chunks, freeing the spirit.

The wielder of the shield may voluntarily destroy the body held inside as a standard action, resulting with the corpse being spit in chunks. This has the side effect of healing the wielder by 10 points per CR of the trapped creature.

Strong necromancy; CL 15th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor, speak with dead, create greater undead; Price 90,000 gp.
