This +1 tower shield is an unusually lightweight oval surrounded by strange runes on the outer edge which rotate and shift symbols on their own. When activates as a standard action, the runes light up and the center area of the shield becomes a multicolored portal into a random part of the Astral Plane. Attacks which would otherwise hit were it not for the shield bonus to AC pass through the portal, and Medium or smaller melee attackers must make a DC 15 Reflex to avoid falling into the portal. Due to the fact it is a portal, add your shield to your touch AC as well.
If you use the tower shield to gain total cover, you also gain total cover against targeted spells as the spells enter the portal instead.
The location the portal leads to is random and chances every hour, and every time you turn off and on the portal. For every hour the portal is active, there is a 5% chance a creature from the other side may pass through.
Medium and smaller creatures may pass through the portal on the shield but do so at their own risk, for if the shield changes locations of the exit point of the portal, or someone turns off the portal on the shield's side, then they may be stranded on the astral plane.
