Poros the Watchful Eye[edit]

The burning gaze of Poros sees all, knows all, and filters some of its knowledge to your mortal mind.

Level: 5th

Binding DC: 23

Special Requirement: Yes

Legend[edit]

The earliest creatures in the multiverse bore all sorts of gibbering horrors and unformed gelatinous masses as early life forms, though fortunately few survive today either killed off in the new environment, exiled to the far corners of the universe, or surviving in subterfuge like the aboleth. One of the weaker eldritch beings from ancient times managed to find a niche where it could survive in the new world, and when it was discovered by early sapient life forms it was deemed a god and was worshiped.

This entity was known as Poros to these ancient worshipers, and was revered as a god of fate and destiny, for it could see and manipulate the threads of time to reach its desired goals. In these times it retained a body which manifested it as a serpentine mound of flesh covered in eyes inside and out, crystalline scales, and with what could ostensibly be called a head dominated by a large burning eye which seemed to be a gateway into another realm. It communicated to its followers through strange visions and dreams, and quietly set up a religion around itself as it plotted to its own ends.

Of course while powerful, it was no god, and when it foresaw disaster looming in the future of its world it found no way to stop it. Some say the disaster was the coming of an elder evil so great its very existence was threatened. To Poros, the lives of its followers could be replaced with time and effort, but if it were to perish here there would be nothing it could do. It divined for answers, a way out, and found one most unexpected. In a strange ritual it conveyed to its followers, it would cease to exist in the universe until the threat had passed.

And so the ritual was performed. Some say the followers messed up the ritual, and Poros remains trapped in non-existence to this very day. Others say that Poros itself had misunderstood its own visions and was in error. But some few whisper that the ritual is working as planned, and the threat remains to this day. It is possible that the threat to Poros was the existence of this very universe, and so it waits for the day for this universe to end.

Special summoning[edit]

The sign must be inscribed with a shard of crystal of any sort.

Manifestation[edit]

The sign and crystal erupt into thick purple-pink cloying vapors, which quickly darken and reveal a large burning eye in the expanding tower of mist. Though silent to all others, Poros speaks to the binder not in the form of words, but visions, dreams, and memories which get across the need to observe the world so that it may once again pull the strings of fate into alignment.

Sign[edit]

A third eye appears on your forehead, which glows purple when performing vestige abilities.

Influence[edit]

You become meticulous and analytical of all details which may or may not relate to your goals. It causes you to overthink and you take 20 on any actions when not in any immediate danger and which wouldn't result in failure (or take 10 on actions which would otherwise result in failure). If there is an opportunity to learn additional details, you never pass it up.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Dark Insight[edit]

If the binder has a dark insight score at all, Poros reveals deeper and darker information than ever before. They may treat their dark insight score as +5 points higher than normal when beneficial.

Detect Thoughts[edit]

The binder is under a constant detect thoughts ability which radiates out to 30 ft. Creatures which make the saving throw are immune until they leave and re-enter the aura. Those which fail the save can also be located without sight as if using blindsight.

Divine Future[edit]

At will the binder can foretell a creature's future over the course of 1 minute, duplicating the effect of divination. In addition the creature can determine one type of roll moment of prescience applies to, and gain a +15 insight bonus as a non-action to said roll. The type of roll must be determined beforehand, and it is discharged after 24 hours. It counts as, and does not stack with, moment of prescience.

A creature can only benefit from divine future once per day.

Scrying Eye[edit]

The binder may use scrying at will over the course of 1 minute, though a successful saving throw renders the target immune for 24 hours to further attempts. The binder can choose to use their third eye as the focus to let others see events play out, or have no focus and receive all information mentally.

Vision of Chaos[edit]

It is said that if Poros looks too closely, it opens up those it observes to the chaos of the far realm which it originated from. The binder gains a ray out to 120 ft which deals a random effect on impact. Roll to see which effect comes into play.

1d8 Type of Beam Effect
1 The Fool A random useless effect no stronger than prestidigitation occurs as the eye cackles madly.
2 Hypnosis Target fascinated for 2d4 rounds. (Will negates).
3 Growth Beam Target subject to enlarge person (if a creature, Fortitude negates and not limited to humanoids) or enlarge item (if an object, Will negates).
4 Splitter Duplicate of target appears in closest valid square. Duplicate lasts for 1 round and acts on the target's turn. Duplicate is hostile to original creature. (Will negates).
5 Conjure Terrors Small demons rip and tear at target, boiling out of reality. Deal 1d6 bludgeoning piercing and slashing damage per two levels. Bypasses DR/magic. (Fortitude half.)
6 Firestarter Deal 1d6 fire damage per level, and target must make a DC 15 Reflex save or catch on fire. Eye continues to sputter flames for 1 round, dealing 1d6 fire damage to anyone within 5 ft to the binder.
7 Death Beam Target subject to disintegrate.
8 Struck by two rays; roll twice more, ignoring any “8” results.

The effect is random, but if you take a move action to focus before firing you may roll twice and choose the effect you wish.

On a confirmed critical hit, roll again for another ray(s) (which automatically hits) rather than multiplying damage.
