Don't cry. If you cry, I'll just hurt you more.

Legend[edit]

Urban legends and horror stories are the realm of fiction and story, but for one legend, the story of "Pinhound", the tale became all too real. Said to have been a serial killer who adopted the name, appearance, and legend to himself, "Pinhound" caused a great many deaths before his sudden disappearance on the night of Halloween. The tales told of a creeping killer who stalked its victims on all fours like a beast, wearing an all black bodysuit and a white smiling human mask, only for his head to lift up and reveal the plague doctor mask on his actual face, and the vicious poison-tipped "pins" on its fingers. It would haunt its victim for weeks before kidnapping, torturing, and killing them. No barrier could stand in its way, for it would slip through the smallest crack and drag you down, body and all, through vents and pipes in impossible spaces for a body to fit through.

At least, so the legend goes. It's not certain if the real killer possessed any of these supernatural powers. What is known is that one day Pinhound was pursuing its prey who fled deep within a cave, with only a crack in the wall to go through. Pinhound pursued, squeezing after its victim when a sudden unexpected earthquake deformed the land around it. Pinhound was crushed between ever-tightening rock while its victim watched in horror as their killer slowly advanced inch by inch, growing thinner, taller, and more distorted by the second. By the time its body exited, Pinhound was unable to be seen. He grew so small and tight that Pinhound slipped out of the universe, and was unable to return.

Manifestation[edit]

There is the faintest tapping of metal pins on the floor, but the source remains unseen as it moves beside you, a chill going up your spine. From thin air Pinhound, a razor-thin flattened caricature of itself, appears next to you with its smiling baby face mask, and a labored and heavy breathing. It says nothing, but on completion of the pack its head rises, exposing its plague doctor mask before slipping from sight as it becomes razor thin again.

Sign[edit]

Metal pins appear from under your nails. You must be showing the sign in order to use its Pinprick attack.

Influence[edit]

You tend to walk on all fours with your head down when possible, though this doesn't hamper your movement or sight in any way. You walk with a fluid, and inhuman, grace. You tend not to speak much, preferring to act to express yourself.

Granted Abilities[edit]

Crawling Killer[edit]

You can fight and move while prone with no penalties, and do not provoke attacks of opportunity if you stand up.

Fear Tracker[edit]

You gain scent, but only against creatures who are wounded (at less than full hp) or under a fear effect (shaken or greater). The two modifiers stack, so a shaken wounded creature counts as a very strong smell (while frightened would be overpowering, and panicked even more overpowering, or four times the range). You also gain the benefits of Track, or a +4 bonus if you already have Track as a feat.

Pinprick[edit]

You gain two claw attacks which only deal piercing damage (1d4 for Medium creatures) and carry a paranoia-inducing poison. Injury poison, 1d3 Dex and shaken for 1 minute/1d3 Dex and shaken for 1 hour. The DC is either Constitution or Charisma based.

Alternatively, you can apply a poison to your claws as a free action without risk of poisoning yourself. In this case, use the chosen poison and its DC rather than your standard poison.

Silent Killer[edit]

You always succeed on Move Silently checks. Any action by you and objects you directly touch (such as opening a door) make no sound, at your choice.

Slip Through[edit]

Though not quite as strong as Pinhound's legendary abilities, you inherit the power to squeeze in spaces you should not. You gain +10 bonus on Escape Artist checks and checks made to resist a grapple, and count as two sizes smaller for the purpose of moving through spaces. While distorting, you often take on flat or thin distorted shapes.
