A small humanoid blob of black crude oil, it slides around with silent grace.

Beings composed of crude oil, they appear not unlike black water elementals. However, oil and water elementals never get along and a war is fought on the borders of the Paraelemental Plane of Ooze and the Elemental Plane of Water, as oil elementals boil up from the depths of the Plane of Earth trying to invade the watery realm.

Oil elementals speak Aquan and Terran, though they rarely choose to do so.

Combat[edit]

Oil elementals are more dexterous but less strong than their watery kin. They enjoy charging and hit and run tactics more than anything. They fear fire, but once on fire they are driven berserk and attack relentlessly until expended.

Burning Rage (Ex): If an oil elemental takes any fire damage, it catches on fire an enters a burning rage. Treat this as a rage of a barbarian of the oil elemental's level, in which the oil elemental becomes immune to fire damage for the duration, it gains +1d6 fire damage to its attacks, and it falls under the effect of haste. The oil elemental is fatigued after the rage ends, but it can re-enter the rage (and end the fatigue) by taking fire damage again.

For the small oil elemental, it gains +4 Strength and Constitution, +2 Will saves, and -2 AC. It's rage lasts for 5 rounds.

Oilslick (Ex): As a standard action the oil elemental may assume the form of a flat oilslick (or a spherical oil slick if in water) equal to its size. Treat as if it was a Fine sized swarm, but it's AC drops to 5 if not lower. As a swarm it is immune to physical weapon damage, but vulnerable to area effects. In this state it can deal no damage but duplicates the effect of grease. Since it normally cannot deal damage in this state it usually adopts this form if it has allies. If it is in a burning rage, it deal fire damage equal to a swarm's damage of it's HD.

For the small oil elemental, it's DC is 11 (13 in rage) and potential fire damage is 1d6 fire. The save DC is Constitution based.

Slide (Ex): An oil elemental doubles its movement speeds if traveling in a straight line, and it ignores difficult terrain.

Water Repulsion (Ex): An oil elemental naturally floats to the top of water at a rate of 60 ft a round unless it makes a move action to stay underwater. In places with no surface (such as the Plane of Water) it does not need to do this. It gains a +2 AC against creatures of the Water subtype, but also takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls against said creatures.
