Legend[edit]
This world is not the first.
Somewhere, deep in the ebbs and flows of the multiverse, this world was born out of another, a world very similar and yet much different to our own. In this alternate timeline, familiar faces and historical figures rose and fell in ways different from our own. Among them was a being named Melusine. Little is known about the original Melusine, other than they were a great wizard of their time and that they had somehow been associated with snakes and serpents, perhaps even a yuan-ti. What is also known is that Melusine was the world's greatest hero and greatest villain, and that she controlled the river of time itself. Time ebbed and flowed at her command, and so it was that she reshaped her world.
Yet this could not stand. Perhaps somehow special and immune to Melusine's horological tampering, or empowered by the universe to remove the one distorting space and time, a group of plucky heroes rose out against her. Through a thousand lifetimes and a thousand deaths, they fought the immortal and all-knowing wizard to no end, until through some luck, skill, or trickery, she was defeated by her own powers. Whatever occurred came at great cost, for the entire timeline collapsed upon itself and the world was erased, and yet it was also reborn into a new timeline. A timeline one would be familiar, with very similar heroes and villains.
Save one.
Melusine did not appear in this timeline, though she technically never perished and her augmentations rendered her immortal and ostensibly invulnerable. For all of her power, the universe had been re-written to exclude any possibility of her existing again, and so Melusine remained stuck out of time, eternally attempting to re-write the future.
Manifestation[edit]
From the seal crawls out a snake through the surface, followed by another one from the other side. The snakes curl together, biting each others' tails and forming a figure 8, as time slows down to a crawl in a time stop-like effect. A female figure, entirely cloaked in what seems to be robes of silver-gray sand that disintegrates and reforms, yet never exposes what is underneath, flickers into existence.
"Can you defy the future?"
Upon agreement to do so, the pact is made and time resumes.
Sign[edit]
Melusine's association with serpents manifests as a pair of snakes which intertwine with your body, but never disrupt you from moving.
Influence[edit]
You are obsessed with the future, and whenever given the opportunity to divine, you must use it to divine seemingly random future events not associated with any "useful" questions you might ask. Subsequently, you find yourself doing random adjustments to your environment, as if to set up some kind of gambit of cause and effect to work in your favor.
Whenever dealing with someone who affects the flow of time other than yourself (such as casting haste) and you are unfriendly or hostile to them, you must focus your aggressions onto them until the encounter ends. No one may adjust the flow of time but you.
Granted Abilities[edit]
Eternal Serpent[edit]
You may use aqua snake at will, though the snake is one of the two snakes from your sign (and subsequently you must show your sign to use this ability). The snake grows in size as it rushes across the battlefield. The snake itself may be attacked, and has your AC, saves, and half your hp. If it is killed, you lose access to the serpent until you form another pact. You have two snakes to use before you run out.
The serpents retain their hp losses and gains until a new pact is made, but are considered attended objects while not in use and on your body.
Ignore Time[edit]
The binder is never affected aversely by effects which manipulate time. This renders them immune to effects such as slow, and allows them to move in a time stop. They may still benefit from effects such as haste if they see fit.
Manipulate Time[edit]
You gain the following spell-like (or psi-like) abilities at will, though only once every 5 rounds: lesser celerityPHBII, haste, slow, time hop. In addition, you may use time stop, but only once per binding, and it burns out your ability to use Manipulate Time for the duration of the pact.
Time Skip[edit]
You are able to skip time as easily as walking, effectively using mass time hop on yourself and other willing creatures to move as far ahead into the future as you want, or until the pact ends.
Reality Sight[edit]
You are always aware when there are time or space distortions in an area up to 100 ft, such as if someone casts a time-altering spell, or if there is an active portal, or someone teleports in the area. You can pinpoint the area, but must use other methods to find out more.
As a result of this hyper-awareness of time, space, and cause and effect, you are less easily swayed by things which do not make sense. You gain a +6 bonus on saves against illusions and mind-affecting effects.
