Originally made as a joke to amuse the king, the unassuming item garnered some popularity on the royal beaches of the island nation of Makuaa for a time. They are often decorated with palm trees or brightly-colored tassels.
The shaft of the umbrella, initially designed to pierce into sand, has been balanced for combat as a masterwork longspear. It can also be deployed as an umbrella, with a canopy of opaque force instead of canvas. If wielded while deployed, it may also function as a heavy shield. Attacks made with the spear end while the umbrella is deployed suffer a –2 penalty and the wielder cannot charge with it. If the canopy is deployed, the umbrella functions as though it were a double weapon.
