Lavellium[edit]
Found in places which have been exposed to a great deal of poison, rot, or destruction which renders the earth barren and sterile, the source of the toxin burrows deep into the iron of the earth and transmutes it into something new and dreadful. This gray metal has a sickly oil-like green sheen upon its polished surfaces. It is naturally poisonous to flesh, and each injury brings suffering upon it beyond the bite of the blade or the crushing force of the hammer.
Lavellium weapons deal 1 point of poison damage on hit, and on a natural 19-20 forces a Fortitude save DC 10 + 1/2 BAB + ability modifier used for attack rolls against a poison that causes the body to become partly paralyzed. The creature suffers from a 20% chance of failing any action they take as their muscles seize up and their mind clouds and misfires. This is considered a paralysis effect, and immunity to paralysis is immunity to this effect. It lasts until treated with a DC 15 Heal check as a standard action, neutralize poison, or the body is allowed to rest for 1 hour.
Lavellium weapons work well with other poisons, increasing the DC of injury and contact poisons by an amount equal to its base enhancement bonus +1, to a maximum of +5 bonus with a +4 weapon. Shields are considered weapons for the purpose of lavellium.
Lavellium armor and shields carry a similar poison effect, but put the threat onto attackers with unarmed strikes or natural weapons. Creatures grappling or hitting with unarmed strikes or natural weapons take 1 point of poison damage on each successful hit, and if they hit with a natural 19-20 the armor releases ablative flakes that force the save against the paralytic effect described above. Armor made from this substance absorbs the poison more easily and wicks it away from the body, giving a +4 bonus on saves against poison.
Lavellium can also be ground and infused with oil to be used as an injury poison known as lavellium oil. This applies the effects of a lavellium weapon, but only on one hit. If lavellium oil is used on a lavellium weapon the damage increases to 2 poison damage, +1 DC, and the effect lasts for 1 minute.
Lavellium is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, lavellium weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and the armor check penalty of lavellium armor is lessened by 1 compared to ordinary armor of its type.
Lavellium has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10.
Type of Lavellium Item | Item Cost Modifier |
