Lantern Shield[edit]
A lantern shield is effectively a buckler secured on a gauntlet. A lantern shield is so named because it has a spike, which allows the wielder to hang a lantern to. A lantern shield is slightly more cumbersome to use than a buckler and requires special training to use. When a lantern is attached to a lantern shield, the user's armor check penalty increases by 2. A lantern shield can be fitted with shield spikes, unlike a buckler.
A lantern shield is an exotic shield, and requires Exotic Shield ProficiencyRoS. A proficient user is capable of using the hand using the lantern shield to wield another weapon as a buckler, except that she does not take any penalty to attack if she wield a light weapon in her off-hand. A non-proficient user increases the armor check penalty of a lantern shield by 3.
