Kuirwood[edit]

Known to grow in dream realms, along psionic leylines, and in enchanted forests, kuir trees are a deciduous hardwood with pale gray bark scattered with occasional spots and scars. New growth branches begin as a richer brown, as do the roots. Its small green leaves grow in palmate clusters. In autumn, its leaves turn pale. The yellow-hued wood taken from these trees possesses a grain with a high amount of contrasting swirl and detail. It is often used to make ornate furniture or personal items.

Whether by translation or regional spelling, it is also known as kwir and kwirwood. Most commonly found in temperate regions, subspecies have been noted in subtropical, tropical, high-altitude and subpolar regions.

Due to its hardness, kuirwood items are always masterwork in quality, and psionic characters get a +2 bonus on Craft checks when working with it.

Items not normally made of wood (such as a mace) or only partially of wood (such as a battleaxe) either cannot be made from kuirwood or do not gain any special benefit from being made of kuirwood for their function.

A kuirwood object costs 10 gp/pound + 200 gp + any masterwork component cost.

Kuirwood has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10.

Psionic Folding: By expending psionic focus, a character can bend a kuirwood object's shape, folding it or curving it or even reforming it back to its base state. No material is added or lost, though breaks can be mended as if by mending. Exceptionally large objects (those out of the character's heavy lifting load) or those attended by another creature, cannot be manipulated with psionic folding.

Thorny Kuirwood[edit]

A piece of kuirwood, freshly sawn.

Very rare stands of kuir trees are known to grow, their branches covered in inch-long thorns. The kuirwood from these trees is exceptionally lightweight. The living trees themselves hum as breezes flutter their leaves.

Wooden items made from thorny kuirwood weigh only half as much as normal wooden items of that type but is otherwise as regular kuirwood.

A shield made of thorny kuirwood has its armor check penalty lessened by 2 compared to an ordinary shield of its type.

A thorny kuirwood object costs 30 gp/pound of the original weight + 300 gp + any masterwork component cost.

Thorny kuirwood has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10.
