1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.

A kontos is a very long and heavy lance, with a lenght of around 15 feet. The kontos is a typical weapon of élite mounted lancers from the great plains and the steppes: it has to be wielded with two hands while directing the horse using the knees; this made the kontos a specialist weapon that required a lot of training and good horsemanship to use. A kontos deals double damage when used as part of a charge attack from horseback.

It has long reach, so you can strike opponents 15 feet away with it, but you can’t use it against an adjacent foe. The kontos cannot be used to make either attacks of opportunity or full-attacks. It is possible to grip the kontos further up its pole than usual and use it as a lance with a –4 circumstance penalty to attack rolls. This stacks with the –4 proficiency penalty if the character is not proficient with the lance. When used as a lance, the kontos may be used to make full-attacks and attacks of opportunity, but has only a 10-foot reach. Changing between using a kontos normally or as a lance is an action equivalent to drawing a weapon. A masterwork kontos cuts the circumstance penalty for using it as a lance in half (to –2) in addition to the regular benefits of being a masterwork weapon.

Only those with the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat can wield a kontos two-handed while mounted with no penalty to attack rolls on horseback and on foot.
