An expansion on Eiji's Hellapeno Spider
Hellbanero Spider[edit]
Spiders filled with a glowing spicy toxin which burns like napalm. They are the augmented creations of a mad culinary obsessed wizard.
Wizards, no sense of right or wrong. The hellbanero spider is an augmentation of any normal spider (including half-spider creatures like driders) which fills them with a potent spicy toxin that burns like napalm and sheds a small amount of light like a lava flow would. It is not clear if the name was the name of the wizard who originally introduced the aberrant genetic code, or a corruption of "habanero", but regardless the code has stuck around as it has proven genetically useful, especially for normal and monstrous spiders in the wild.
It's venom is incredibly hot and will burn holes in the ground when it drips. This can make these spiders a bit easier to track if they are fleeing, but in most cases, they are careful enough not to go dripping their venom.
Creating a Hellbanero Spider[edit]
This is an inherited template which can be applied to any "spider", including spider swarms, monstrous spiders, and half-spider creatures such as driders.
Special Attacks[edit]
Burning Poison (Ex): The hellbanero spider gains a toxic attack applied to all its natural weapons. It deals 3d6 extra fire damage to the creatures attacks, and targeted creatures must make a Fortitude save against poison. Staggered and Burning for 1 round/Sickened for 1 hour. Save negates the status effects but not the fire damage, and the save DC is Constitution based. The fire damage ignores object hardness.
If the spider already possesses a poison attack, the effects of this poison stack with the previous poison (so a large monstrous spider deals 1d6 Str and Staggering/1d6 Str and Sickening). If a spider shoots webbing, the poison is on the web instead and a contact poison, though the DC is lowered by -4.
Napalm Strike (Ex): The hellbanero spider can shoot out a line of burning venom as an action that takes 1 round (like casting a 1 round spell so it happens on its next turn). The line is 5 ft. wide per 5 HD (min 5 ft.) and 5 ft. long per HD. Each creature in the area must make a Reflex save or else take 1d6 fire damage per HD of the spider and must also save against its poison. This attack can only be performed every 1d4 + 1 rounds and is considered a breath weapon (so it can have breath-weapon related feats applied to it).
Special Qualities[edit]
Death Throes (Ex): On death a hellbanero spider bursts into a cloud of spicy fumes. The effect is similar to stinking cloud, but also causes the Burning condition for 1 round on any failed save, is limited to their square and all squares within their reach, and has a caster level equal to the creature's HD. The save DC is 10 + 1/2 HD + Con modifier.
Spicy Body (Ex): Any creatures which make a bite attack against a hellbanero spider is subject to its burning poison (including the fire damage). If swallowed it applies with a -4 penalty on the saving throw against poison.
Fire Resistance (Ex): Hellbanero spiders have 2 fire resistance per HD.
