Also known as binding chains or teufelskette, these golden manacles are attached via a fairly short length of robust chain, which appears to never have the same number of links when counted. They're typically only employed to bind heads of state or by those with a sense of wicked opulence.
When each cuff is placed on the arms or legs of a creature, the curse of these wicked chains take effect. They have no key, and can only be removed by the command of the creature that placed them on or a casting of a remove curse or stronger effect. Wriggling against their hold is to no avail. The length of chain is just enough for the creature to fall short of stretching their arms or legs wide. The chain poses a burden because of its weight, weighing enough to put the creature just into a Medium load, with a minimum weight of 8 pounds.
Particularly cursed sets of these chains even allow the shackler to call out a command when within 30 feet to hold the cuffs in place as by the effect of an immovable rod. These chains can fetch prices of 5,000 gp more than their counterparts.
They otherwise have a break DC of 38, hardness 22 and 10 hp. Though, breaking the chains while worn causes them to reappear on the wearer 10 minutes later.
The golden encumbrance chains are a unique item that cannot be replicated, but they are not an artifact and thus may be destroyed or enhanced further as normal.
