Esoteric Investigators are expert detective and often thought to be skilled diviners, but no, they use their formidable insight couple with educated guesses based on various clues and proofs they discovered to make incredible deductions. They are skilled detectives, private eyes and inspectors, they are all-seeing eye who always spot the tiniest detail and solve the case.

Becoming a Esoteric Investigator[edit]

Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the esoteric investigator.

Quick Wits (Ex): An esoteric investigator add her intelligence modifier on autohypnosis, diplomacy, gather information, listen sense motive, spot as well as on survival check when tracking in addition to her wisdom and charisma modifier.

Investigate (Ex): An esoteric investigator greatest skill is her ability to follow clues and make deduction. She may as a full-round action declare a 'case', doing so prevent her from declaring other case until she complete it or abandon it (see below). The case can be as simple solving a riddle, solving a murder or discovering of a spy. While in her case she gains half her class level (minimum 1) as a bonus on all skill checks made with the purpose of directly solving her case.

Each hour she actively pursue the case or whenever she discover a major clue (DM's discretion) she gains 1 evidence point. She may only have a number of evidence point on any particular case equal to her class level. On the other hand each day she do not follow the case at all or if she is obfuscated (DM's Discretion as well) an outside source she lose one evidence point. She may use her evidence points on her insightful deduction ability (see below).

If she solve a case she may take another as soon as she wishes, if she abandon it however she cannot take another case for 24 hours and suffer a -4 morale bonus on all d20 checks.

Insightful Deduction (Ex): By spending 10 minute thinking and studying her clues the esoteric investigator is capable of making an incredible accurate deduction. She may spent any number of evidence point to replicate one of the effect on the table below, while some replicate spells they are extraordinary and based purely on the investigator's insight using her character level as caster level. She may only use her insightful deduction to answer questions pertaining to her case.

Partial Class Advancement: The esoteric investigator class gives advancement to pre-existing class features, such as sneak attack, bardic songs per day (but not bardic music known), caster level (but not spells known), and initiator level (but not new maneuvers). It does not grant new class features, nor does it grant spells per day, spells known, or similar abilities.

Insightful Recall (Ex): At 2nd level when an esoteric investigator possess a perfect photographic memory, she remember everything with perfect clairty and gain her class level as a bonus on any memory-altering effect. Additionally she gains total recall as a bonus feat even if she does not meet the prerequisites.

Sleepless Nights (Ex): A 2nd level esoteric investigator need to spend a lot of her night studying her case, she ignore the penalties of being fatigued but not exhausted and she gains a +5 bonus on all saving throw against sleep-effects. Additionally whenever she drink coffee or tea, she may replicate the effect of Holt's energy booster, knowing how to maximize energy gain from these substances.

Insightful Detection (Ex): A 3rd level esoteric investigator can through her sheer deduction, replicate the effect of any detect spell (such as detect alignment, detect magic, detect thoughts or detect undead) as a standard action.

Additionally an esoteric investigator always detect secret door or passage within 5 feet of her. If she is an elf the range of this ability double.

Nigh Prescience (Ex): A 4th level esoteric investigator receive uncanny dodge and evasion. If she already had one or both of these class feature she receive the improved version.

Peerless Tracker (Ex): A 4th level esoteric investigator halves the DC of any track check that she attempt.

All in the Picture (Ex): When a 5th level esoteric investigator look at a picture for at least 1 hour, she may gain information from it as if she used scrying on the scene, since the scene do not exist in the present there is no saving throw for the creatures contained in the scene. She only receive information on the minute preceding and after the picture was taken. She cannot use this ability on fake pictures, such as a created scenery but automatically recognize them as being fake/artificial with by examining them for 5 minutes.

Object Reading (Ex): A 6th level esoteric investigator gain the ability to use object reading, through deduction. The power is fully augmented to her character level.

Speak your Mind (Ex): A 7th level esoteric investigator is capable of having a deductive 'conversations' with animals even corpses. She is able to use speak with animals and speak with dead as extraordinary ability at will. The animal or corpse in question does not actually talk, you simply guesses it answers. This make you look fucking crazy.

Never Lost (Ex): At 8th level esoteric investigator can use find the path as an extraordinary ability at will.

Illusionbane (Ex): A 8th level esoteric investigator count as interacting with any illusion within her field of vision (even if she cannot see it) or that she can hear, allowing her to make will save against them. Additionally she can recognize any illusory or artificial image or sound as being fake.

Impeccable Memory (Ex): A 9th level esoteric investigator become immune to any personality or memory-alerting effect (such as the mindrape spell or the water of the Styx). She may resume or suppress this ability as a free action.

Eureka! (Ex): At 10th level esoteric investigator may use hypercognition as an extraordinary ability. She must use it to learn something related to her current case. Her hypercognition cannot directly solver her case (she cannot ask who is the killer by example) but it may reveal a major clue. She may use this ability once per case.
