Eccosteel[edit]
When swung through the air this alloy makes a barely audible ultrasonic hum. With careful strikes or sonic vibrations, one can make the metal reveal its secrets. Created by githzerai monks in the astral plane, the tones they produce when struck is said to bring enlightenment and oneness with the world. Eccosteel has an unremarkable gray finish, but when struck it begins to shine with an enhanced luster.
When forged into a weapon, eccosteel deals +1 sonic damage on every strike. Any attacks that strike the weapon itself also deal this damage to the attacker, bypassing hardness. In addition if struck in a specific way as a move action it releases a single audible ping which briefly illuminates patterns on the weapon itself, granting a brief moment of blindsense out to 60 ft for that instance to the wielder. The result is instantaneous, and will become outdated once any hidden or invisible creatures move. Shields count as weapons for this purpose.
When forged into armor, eccosteel provides some protection against sonic attacks by redirecting and neutralizing the sound waves with counter waves of its own. It provides sonic resistance 3 (light armor), 6 (medium armor), or 10 (heavy armor). If you are deafened, you can still "feel" sound while wearing this armor. You take no penalty on initiative checks and spell failure drops to 5%. You can hear when someone is speaking and thus can make Listen checks, but cannot determine the content of any words.
If forged into the shape of a bell or other metal instrument, the sound carries with unusual clarity. It can be heard twice as far away as normal, though it is no more loud than normal. Masterwork instruments gain an additional +2 on its masterwork bonus.
Eccosteel is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, eccosteel weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and the armor check penalty of eccosteel armor is lessened by 1 compared to ordinary armor of its type.
Eccosteel has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10. It is immune to sonic damage.
