Ctarl-Ctarl[edit]

Proud warrior aliens with great strength, durable heat resistant bodies, and vicious feline berserker forms.

Personality[edit]

Ctarl-Ctarls are not known for their subtle nature. Upon their homeworld, strength is king and conflicts are dealt with by fist and claw. Thus they may come off as arrogant, aggressive, or hostile, but rarely are they duplicitous for they have a strong sense of honor, and they can respect strength regardless of species or form. After all, if you have the might to change the world, you have earned the right to change it.

Physical Description[edit]

Ctarl-Ctarl are humanoid creatures with tall and muscular frames, expressive feline furry ears in place where human ears would sit, small but sharp claws, cat eyes, whiskers, and long furry tails. Their hair color, which comes in many hues, typically is associated with the fur color they take on in their transformed state.

When transformed they undergo a process not unlike a lycanthrope’s ability to change into animal form. They grow large, covered in fur, and take on forms akin to muscular tigers. In this state they are in a feral mindset and sometimes lose control over themselves in a fit of violence.

Relations[edit]

As an aggressive species, not many find peace with the Ctarl-Ctarl at first. However, respect is won through strength, and any creature capable of repelling off their aggression will eventually lose it in favor of more reasonable and traditional methods of diplomacy. Those who befriend the Ctarl-Ctarl will find no greater ally… if you can befriend them.

Alignment[edit]

With a focus on right makes right, they tend towards chaotic alignments most of all.

Lands[edit]

It is said the Ctarl-Ctarl are originally from another world, also named Ctarl-Ctarl. Those found unconnected from their interstellar empires were likely would-be invasion forces who were defeated and eventually integrated with the societies they sought to overthrow long ago.

Religion[edit]

The Ctarl-Ctarls seem to follow a monotheistic god only known as the God of All Ctarl-Ctarls. Barring this enigmatic entity, deities of strength are often found pleasing.

Language[edit]

The Ctarl-Ctarl speak Common and Ctarl-Ctarl, a deep and growling language which is said to always sound angry. Often though, the loudest and most aggressive conversations are merely used as emotional signifiers, used for both the deepest of hate and the most passionate of loves.

Names[edit]

Names, in particular last names, often have duplication unto themselves such as “Clan-Clan”. First names vary, many seemingly picked up from human cultures nearby.

Racial Traits[edit]

  • +2 Strength, -2 Wisdom: Strong of body, but weak of willpower. They sometimes give into their worst instincts at the worst times and are easily provoked.
  • Monstrous Humanoid (Anthro, Shapechanger): They are humanoid cat people with powerful feral cat forms.
  • Medium: As a Medium creature, a ctarl-ctarl has no special bonuses or penalties due to its size.
  • Ctarl-Ctarl base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision: A ctarl-ctarl can see in the dark up to 60 feet. Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and a ctarl-ctarl can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Damage Reduction (Su): Ctarl-Ctarls have DR 1/-. This DR stacks with similar DR from items and class features.
  • Easily Provoked: Ctarl-Ctarls take a -2 penalty on saves against any effect which would goad them into violence.
  • Heat Resistance (Ex): Ctarl-Ctarls have Fire Resistance 5. At 10 HD, this rises to Fire Resistance 10. They are particularly resistant to mundane sources of fire, only taking minimal damage from non-magical fire sources.
  • Tiger Rage (Ex): When pushed to anger, a ctarl-ctarl can change into a giant tiger-like beast. This functions as a rage 1/day from a 1st level barbarian with the following changes: They become Large (long) and do not change ability scores from changing size. Mundane clothing either falls to the ground or rips, while magical items adjust to fit their new form or are absorbed and suppressed if they cannot use it in this form. They gain two primary claws (1d6) and a secondary bite (1d8) as natural weapons. Unlike a barbarian’s rage, they must make a Will save DC 15 + ½ HD as a free action to try and stop. If they fail, their rage continues and they cease being able to tell friend from foe. This can extend their rage beyond what rage would typically allow them to operate. Every round they take damage, they may attempt the saving throw again. Using Tiger Rage renders the ctarl-ctarl fatigued (or exhausted if already fatigued) until they can eat a full meal, a process that typically requires 10 minutes of downtime and something to eat. Doing so brings exhaustion to fatigue and fatigue to no effects, but only that inflicted via Tiger Rage.
Tiger Rage counts as rage for the purpose of interacting with feats and effects. If the ctarl-ctarl gains rage from another source such as by taking levels in barbarian, add Tiger Rage to the number of times per day they can rage (or for Pathfinder, add 4 rounds of rage). When they rage, they can choose to enter a regular rage, or a Tiger Rage. When the bonuses from rage increase via class levels, these bonuses also apply to Tiger Rage.
