Class Features[edit]
All of the following are class features of the Codex Roboticist.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A roboticist is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the greatclub, light hammer, light and heavy picks, warhammer, and all forms of crossbows (including exotic crossbows). Roboticists are proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields). A roboticist can cast roboticist spells while wearing light armor or using shields (but not tower shields) without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like any other arcane spellcaster, a roboticist wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield incurs a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component (most do). A multiclassing roboticist still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes.
Spells: A codex roboticist casts arcane spells which are drawn from the codex roboticist spell list. A codex roboticist must choose and prepare her spells ahead of time like a wizard. To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, the codex roboticist must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a constructor's spell is 10 + the spell level + the codex roboticist's Intelligence modifier.
Like other spellcasters, a constructor can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Table: The Codex Roboticist. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Intelligence score. Unlike a bard or sorcerer, a constructor may know any number of spells. She must choose and prepare her spells ahead of time by getting a good night's sleep and spending 1 hour studying her schematic codex. While studying, the codex roboticist decides which spells to prepare.

Schematic Codex: A codex roboticist must study her schematic codex each day to prepare her spells. She cannot prepare any spell not recorded in her schematic book, except for read magic, which all codex roboticist can prepare from memory. A codex roboticist begins play with a schematic codex containing all 0-level codex roboticist spells plus three 1st-level spells of your choice. For each point of Intelligence bonus the codex roboticist has, the schematic codex holds one additional 1st-level spell of your choice. At each new codex roboticist level, he gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that she can cast (based on her new constructor level) for her schematic codex. At any time, a codex roboticist can also add spells found in other schematic codex/spellbook to her own if the spell appears on his class spell list. Regardless of the level of the spell he is copying from, she gains the spell at the level listed on the constructor class spell list.
Trapfinding (Ex): A 1st level codex roboticist gains trapfinding as a rogue.
Tweaks: A codex roboticist can prepare a number of 'tweaks' or 0-level spell equal to her intelligence bonus, unlike normal spell she may use her tweaks at will.
Use Mechanical Device: A codex roboticist is a natural with machines, gaining "Use Mechanical Device", a unique skill that allows the roboticist to identify and operate machines whose function is unknown to her. It is similar to a Use Magic Device check, but is her class level + her Int modifier, and having 5 ranks in Knowledge: Engineering gives a +2 synergy bonus to her roll.
As a general rule, DC 10 is for simple, unknown devices such as a gun, a simple vehicle, or determining what exposed gears and wires connect to. DC 20 is for complex devices, such as trying to drive a car, operating a machine with three or more complex functions, determining where gears or wires go with only indirect or partial evidence, or understanding what a complex machine does (but not how it does it). DC 30 is for really complicated devices, alien technologies, machines with non-visible parts (such as many microscopic electronics), or extremely multifunctional items.
Checks to see if she knows what it is off the bat take no longer than a Knowledge check, but checks to figure out what something does generally take 1 minute of study. Checks can be rushed to 1 round by increasing the DC by +10.
Analyze Construct (Ex): At 2nd level a codex roboticist knows all about constructs and may make a Knowledge: Arcana check to identify them as a free action. If they succeed, they gain the ability to make critical hits and sneak attacks against the identified constructs. If they already possessed the ability to make critical hits and sneak attacks against constructs, successfully identifying them grants an additional 1d6 damage on all attack against the identified construct.
If the codex roboticist rolls a natural 20 on an attack against an identified construct, the codex roboticist may shut down one of the construct's supernatural or spell-like abilities for 1d4+1 rounds.
Universal Expert: A codex roboticist gains the universal expert (craft) as a bonus feat even if she doesn't meet the prerequisites.
Craftsman (Ex): At 2nd level, a codex roboticist gains an edge on other crafters when creating objects and knowing about arcane devices. She gains half her class level as an insight bonus to all Craft checks and to Knowledge Arcana and Spellcraft checks. She may use said skills untrained.
Create Automaton (Ex): A 2nd level codex roboticist is capable of replicating the effect of summon monster with a caster level equal to her class level but the summoned creature is of the construct type (do not change BAB, HD, or saves), the living construct subtype (retaining its Con score), and is mindless, giving it Int - and no skill points. It retains any racial skills, such as a bonus to swim checks. As a construct, it is immune to critical hits and sneak attacks, low-light vision, darkvision, immunity to mind-affecting effects, immunity to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning disease, death, ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, energy drain, and massive damage. It does not have an immunity to nonlethal damage or necromancy effects, nor is it immune to effects that require Fortitude saves. It cannot heal damage on its own (unless the creature has fast healing) and is immediately destroyed at 0 hp. It does not gain bonus hp based on its size. These "summons" are not actually summons and are created, and thus are unhampered by protection from evil or similar spells. They last for 1 round/level and have a 1 round casting time which provokes attacks of opportunity.
She may have a single automaton active at any time until 4th level where she may have two active at the same time. She gains the ability to gain an additional active automaton at each 4 levels beyond 4th.
Craft Construct: At 3rd level a codex roboticist gains the Craft Construct feat as a bonus feat, even if she does not meet the prerequisites.
Electro Charge (Ex): A 3rd level roboticist gains a powerful electric touch usable as an attack action; it requires a touch attack and deals 2d6 + half her character level in electricity damage. You can combine this ability with your unarmed strike, adding the damage from electro charge to your unarmed strike damage, however it is no longer a touch attack and follow the normal rule for unarmed strike.
Item Capsulation (Sp): It turns out carrying around several tons of scrap metal and constructs is really hard. A 3rd level codex roboticist discovers the secrets of material compression and can turn any of her constructs (created temporarily or not) into small spheres the size of sling bullets. She may convert one or more of her constructs in 100 ft into a sphere as a standard action. Constructs of any size can be compressed into spheres, and in sphere form can only move 30 ft as a move action. Spheres are diminutive sized orbs with an AC of 18 (+8 size), negligible weight, and ability scores, saves, and hp of the compressed construct. Specifically this ability is used for transportation, but sometimes it is used to squeeze a construct through a tight space. Objects which are a light load for the roboticist can also be turned into spheres, but do not animate.
Additionally she may create a capsule home; this non-animated capsule can be activated to grew into the equivalent of a ranch house. Items stored in the house are also contained in the capsule but creatures are automatically ejected from the house when returned to capsule form. Due to its nature the capsule home requires a 50x50 empty space and relatively flat terrain in order to be properly deployed; if the prerequisites are not met, it simply fails to deploy.
Recycle Construct (Ex): A 4th level codex roboticist makes well with whatever scrap she can find. She can break down a destroyed construct into raw components and store it in storage, gaining scrap worth half the creation cost and half the xp cost of the destroyed construct. For example, an iron golem (80,000gp + 5600 xp) gives 40,000 gp and 2,800 xp in scrap. Scrap cannot be used for anything other than assisting in the creation of another construct, reducing material and xp costs appropriately. Recycling a construct takes 30 minutes and requires a successful Knowledge Arcana or Knowledge Engineering check (DC 20), it is a delicate process and cannot be rushed.
Rebuke Construct (Su): At 4th level, a codex roboticist gains some control over constructs which are not under her control. She gains the ability to rebuke like an evil cleric of her class level, but she rebuke constructs rather than undead. Constructs whose creator is within 60 feet or intelligent constructs gain a +4 bonus on their turn resistance. The codex roboticist can choose to exclude allies from the effect.
Cybernetic (Ex): At 5th level, a codex roboticist begins to tinker on her own body, changing it to be more like a construct. The changes can be subtle, such as an unusual gleen to her eyes, or extreme like her skin turning iron gray, but the results are the same. She gains low light vision, darkvision out to 60 feet, may count as a construct for the purposes of magic items and pre-requisites, garners immunity to the fatigue and sickened condition, and possesses 25% fortification against critical hits and sneak attacks.
At 10th level, the artificial changes are improved upon. She gains immunity to disease, exhaustion, nausea, poison, and 50% fortification against critical hits and sneak attacks. Additionally, she gains bonus hit points as a construct of her size and can benefit from warforged components.
At 15th level, she gains an additional degree of augmentations. She gains immunity to ability damage, death effects, paralysis, stunning, and 75% fortification against critical hits and sneak attacks.
At 20th level, she finally achieves apotheosis. Her type becomes Construct with the Living Construct and Augmented subtypes. She gains damage reduction 10/adamantine, does not need to eat, sleep, or breathe, and possesses all construct type immunities, including immunity to mind affecting effects. In spite of her construct nature, she may still be raised and resurrected as a creature of her original type, as well as act as a creature of her original type when beneficial. She may accept normal healing from cure spells or from the repair series of spells.
Disrupt Construct (Ex): Never build something you don't know how to take apart. A 5th level codex roboticist gains +2 attack and +2d6 damage against any creatures of the construct type, and against objects.
Bonus Feat: At 5th level and every five levels beyond, a codex roboticist gains any item creation feat, or a bonus feat selected from the following list: Nimble Fingers, and Skill Focus (craft, knowledge arcana, or spellcraft).
Imbue Item (Ex): A codex roboticist of 6th level or higher can use her supernatural power to create magic items, even if she does not know the spells required to make an item or construct (although she must know the appropriate item creation feat). She can substitute a Use Mechanical Device check (DC 15 + spell level for arcane spells or 25 + spell level for divine spells) in place of a required spell she doesn't know or can't cast.
Radio Link (Ex): At 6th level the codex roboticist gains telepathy with all constructs she built or hacked within 100 feet, allowing her to relay orders at a distance efficiently.
Energize Construct (Ex): A 7th level codex roboticist may have her electro charge heal constructs.
Speak with Constructs (Su): An 8th level codex roboticist is under the constant effect of speak with constructs. Treat as speak with animals, but limited to creatures of the construct type. Unfortunately, many constructs are mindless and thus have little to nothing to say.
Influence Construct (Sp): A 9th level codex roboticist knows how to hack the system of technological and arcane machines. They can use charm person and suggestion, but only on constructs (bypassing racial immunities such as being mindless, but not other immunities such as mind blank or being immune to magic). They may use a combination of either effect up to their Int modifier/day (minimum 1), and the saving throws are DC 10 + 1/2 HD + Int modifier.
Transportation Network (Su): A 10th level codex roboticist knows how to build a teleportation network; she may use create anchor point and warp as supernatural abilities at will. She may only warp to a warp anchor sigil she herself created.
All constructs she built and will build are able to use warp at will as well with the same limitation as the roboticist. She may add this feature to constructs she did not create with 8 hours of work and 1,000 gp in material expenses.
Memory Backup (Ex): At 11th level the codex roboticist knows how to modify and make backups of her own memory. She gains the Suppress Memory feat as a bonus feat and may use crystalize memory (self only) as a psi-like ability at will.
Additionally, upon death, the codex roboticist leaves a special chip behind. If found and used as a component in the resurrection process, the codex roboticist does not suffer from any level loss from being raised or resurrected.
Holographic Construct (Su): At 12nd level, the roboticist may alter her create automaton ability as if it was modified by the Phantasmal Summons metamagic feat.
Dominate Construct (Sp): Why stop at simple hacking when you can completely control the system? A 13th level codex roboticist can use dominate person, but only on constructs, using the same rules and times per day as influence construct. Unlike influence construct, a roboticist can only have one dominated construct at a time. Dominating another construct frees the first of its compulsion.
Aether Gate (Su): At 14th level the codex roboticist may build a permanent gate (travel version only) with 24 hours of work and 20,000 gp. The aether gate is a gargantuan, immobile object with 300 hit points and a hardness of 20. If destroyed, it sends all creatures within 10 feet of it to the plane it leads to (no save) and then explodes as superexplosion (caster level equal to class level).
The aether gate take 1 minute to activate and stays open for 1 hour per class level. It always leads to the same plane, but not always the same place on a plane. Sadly, it cannot be opened from a distance, trapping those who enter on the other side if they fail to return before it closes.
Reanimation (Su): At 16th level, death doesn't stop a codex roboticist. Once per week as an immediate action, if a codex robotcist dies but her body remains intact, it instantly animates as if it were a construct. Her body remains animated for 1 round/level. During the time her type changes to construct, her hit points and maximum hit points are replaced by 10 hit points per level plus bonus hit points for a construct of her size, she are destroyed when her new hit points reach 0 hp, and she gains construct immunities and immunity to mind-affecting effects. She continues to fight, possibly dying again in the process, in which case her body is destroyed and she requires the use of resurrection and greater to restore her to life. Regardless of whether she is healthy or not at the end of the duration, she ceases animation and dies as normal.
Mind Uploading (Ex): A 17th level roboticist may, upon her death, upload her mind into a mindless construct (or computer if in the setting) within long range. She is unable to act normally while she lives as pure information, although she gains control of the possessed construct. If she attempts to possess a non-mindless construct or a construct with a higher CR than her own it is allowed a Will save (DC 10 +1/2 HD + the codex roboticist's intelligence score) to negate the possession. If the construct she is currently inhabiting is destroyed, she may attempt to possess another one as a free action. If she is uable to upload her mind to another body, she immediately dies for real. A roboticist cannot be raised or resurrected normally while in data form, unless the construct holding her mind is also present for the process, in which case the codex roboticist ceases her existence as pure data and regains her normal body. She does not lose a level from being raised this way.
Instantaneous Transmission (Ex): A 18th level codex roboticist may as a full-round action have up to 8 constructs she built or hacked teleport adjacent to her as if they were using greater teleport. She may only use this ability once per hour.
Alternatively she may transport herself to any of point in her transportation network as per greater teleport. Once she use this ability she must wait 5 rounds before using it again.
Robotic Copy (Ex): At 19th level a codex roboticist gains a Doppelganger Cohort (as the feat), except that that it is a construct with the bot subtype. While it does not have an Intelligence score it may use your Intelligence as it Wisdom (if higher) and use it Wisdom for it spellcasting. If destroyed you may rebuild your robotic copy over the course of 24 hours.
