Clockwork Subtype[edit]

Clockwork creatures are constructs whose main function comes from technology rather than animating a solid mass of stone. They are made of complex gears, pipes, pulleys, and quasi-magical computer chips which grant them a unique intellect over their typically mindless kin. A clockwork creature often has complicated and pointless gears and cogs both inside and out of their body, and they may generate steam, electrical surges, or other technological effects.

Traits[edit]

A clockwork creature possesses the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).

  • Vital Gears (Ex): A clockwork creature does not possess immunity to critical hits, but it does have 25% fortification.
  • Portfolio (Ex): A clockwork creature has a primative intellect in the form of their Charisma score. Clockwork creatures with at least 6 Charisma have a portfolio, a single subject (such as "Cleaning" or "Tracking") which it uses its Charisma score as an effective Intelligence score. For every 6 points in Charisma it gains another portfolio. For subjects outside of its portfolio, it uses its normal intelligence score (usually mindless). If its portfolio is "Combat" it automatically becomes proficient in all simple weapons, and all martial weapons or one exotic weapon.
  • Salvagable (Ex): Unlike most constructs, a clockwork creature dies at -10 like living creatures. It is disabled when under 0 hp, and automatically stabilized. If the remains of a clockwork construct are found, they can be revived at half the cost of creation. The revived construct is the same construct, personality and all, when this is done.

Clockwork Subtype Creatures[edit]

The following creatures have the Clockwork subtype:
