Strategies and Tactics[edit]
Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind will mostly fight like a phoenix, with a few notable differences. The biggest is that, as Bun-Mi is the physical representation of a constellation, can't move too far from its assigned path. She makes good use of her SLAs and will, if at all possible, make use of its 7 Mansions of the Moon ability.
Bun-Mi will protect the aspects of its domain and those under its aegis, and is less concerned with death even than most phoenixes.
Combat[edit]
Legacy: The legacy bonus of Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind is +2.
Fire Absorption (Ex): Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind heals from Fire effects and damage.
Self-Resurrection (Su): A slain phoenix remains dead for only 1d4 rounds unless its body is completely destroyed by an effect such as disintegrate. Otherwise, a fully healed phoenix emerges from the remains 1d4 rounds after death, as if brought back to life via resurrection. The phoenix gains 1 permanent negative level when this occurs, although most use greater restoration to remove this negative level as soon as possible. A phoenix can self-resurrect only once per year. If Bun-Mi dies a second time before that year passes, she will self-resurrect on the first day of the next Summer. A phoenix that dies within the area of a desecrate spell cannot self-resurrect until the desecrate effect ends, at which point the phoenix immediately resurrects. A phoenix brought back to life by other means never gains negative levels as a result.
Shroud of Flame (Su): Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind can cause her feathers to burst into fire as a free action. As long as its feathers are burning, it inflicts an additional 1d6+11 points of fire damage with each natural attack (listed above), and any creature within reach (20 feet, but see Parallax) must make a DC 29 Reflex save each round to avoid taking 4d6+12 points of fire damage at the start of its turn. Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind may exclude creatures from its Shroud of Flame as a free action (which it normally will on those it doesn't see as threats). A creature that attacks Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind with natural or non-reach melee weapons takes 1d6+11 points of fire damage (no save) with each successful hit. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Purified Fire (Su): Half of all Fire damage dealt by Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind is Divine damage.
The Legacy Lives On (Ex): if a legacy monster fails a saving throw against a spell or effect that would kill or destroy it outright, it instead takes damage as though it suffered a disintegrate spell as cast by a spellcaster with the appropriate caster level.
Throw Off the Disability (Ex): If a legacy monster is targeted by a non-instantaneous effect or harmful status condition, it can recover far quicker from it. For the purpose of a legacy monster throwing off status conditions or control impairing effects such as being slowed, confused, stunned, deafened and the like, one round counts as a number of rounds equal to the monster's legacy bonus + 1 (maximum 10). Regardless of its legacy bonus, a legacy monster is completely immune to any negative effect that only lasts one round.
Parallax (Ex): Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind always appears the same size, no matter how far away she is viewed. Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind always counts as being in melee with creatures it can see and vice versa. This also allows Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind to affect any creature it can see with its Shroud of Flame.
7 Mansions of the Moon (Ex): Bun-Mi of the Southern Wind is associated very heavily with Summer. During Summer, Bun-Mi has one of the following effects, depending upon the date.
Well: Bun-Mi may lower its current and max hp by 100 as a free action usable outside of its turn to take an extra turn immediately. This doesn't change Bun-Mi's initiative. The max hp penalty lasts for 24 hours.
Ghost: Bun-Mi gains the Incorporeal Subtype, except that she gets its natural armor instead of its Charisma to its Deflection, and her keeps its Strength score.
Willow: Half of all damage Bun-Mi takes (before damage reduction, resistence, immunity, etc.) is also dealt to the damage dealer. Damage type remains the same.
Star: Bun-Mi's Fire damage becomes Fire, Light, and Lightning damage, requiring resistance or immunity to all to reduce the damage.
Net: Any creature dealt damage by Bun-Mi is entangled for 1 round. A creature that is damaged by Bun-Mi for 3 turns in a row is also immobilized for 1 round.
Wings: Bun-Mi may make an additional swift or move action on each of its turns.
Chariot: Bun-Mi is permanently Hasted, and leaves a trail of fire (as its Shroud of Flame) for 1 round in its wake.
