1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.
The Broad Bastard Sword is basically a Bastard sword with a very wide blade and a weight closer to a greatsword; and it is wielded by professional soldiers and mercenaries for delivering terrible slicing attacks and chopping blows.
A Broad Bastard Sword is too large to use in one hand without special training; thus, it is an exotic weapon. If the wielder has Exotic Weapon Proficiency and a Strength score of at least 13, it is possible to wield a Broad Bastard Sword in one hand with a -1 penalty to attack rolls, due to the significant weight of the weapon.
Failing to meet the requirement makes the Broad Bastard Sword an improvised weapon with a -6 penalty to attack and damage rolls for those with Martial Weapon Proficiency only and -2 for those with Exotic Weapon Proficiency for the Bastard sword but without a strenght score of at least 13).
A character can use an Broad Bastard Sword two-handed as a martial weapon, without penalty on attack rolls.
A Broad Bastard Sword counts as a Bastard sword or as a Greatsword (but not as these two last weapons together) for the purpose of any of the following feats: Greater Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Specialization, Improved Critical, Weapon Focus, and Weapon Specialization: if a character has any of these feats both on the Bastard sword and the Greatsword, the bonuses of the feats from the two last weapons are not cumulative within the Broad Bastard Sword.
